Lumea at home or laser hair removal in clinic?

Which gives best, most permanent results? Painful?

I have very fair skin and very dark hair so think either would suit but can't decide which to go for. Would be looking to do it all - upper lip, chin, legs, underarms, bikini line

Thanks!

Lumea worked better on me and lasted longer than my friend’s laser treatment she had at the same time. It cost her a fortune and she ended up borrowing my Lumea to go back over loads of patches of regrowth she got.

courgettigreensadwater · 06/01/2023 11:58

Same as above. Paid loads years ago to have it done and it was rubbish. Absolutely love my Lumea.

Wow thanks! Was it painful to do to yourself? Did you do it weekly? How long before you started to see results? Does it last forever??

Doesn’t hurt at all. I did it every 1-2 weeks for 3 months (started seeing reduced regrowth after a month) and then the majority of the hair was gone! I first did it 8 years ago and my underarm hair never grew back at all. I get occasional small patches on my legs so just do top ups on those when needed.

I've done both types of laser.

Skn clinic was very painful and not actually that effective. Lumea is so much cheaper and more effective. Have done legs and armpits. Extremely happy and annoyed to have dithered for so long

Amazing. Didn't expect such a unanimous response!

Ooo!

Was going to say Lumea works wonders for me too. It looks like everyone else too. I only have to top up irregularly if I see some regrowth. I'm mostly hair free now on my legs and underarms. Given your skin and hair colour, Lumen will suit you very well.

Following as I'm fed up waxing .

courgettigreensadwater · 07/01/2023 00:26

Sorry for the late reply. You can get a Lumea app and then when you start it will schedule in and remind you when you need to do treatments to fit in with hair growth and maximise effectiveness.

Glitteratitar · 07/01/2023 00:31

You need to use the right type of laser for your skin type or else it won’t work. I have dark hair and light olive skin, and I went for the ND Yag machine and it was super effective for me.

Lumea is IPL, so in theory not as effective but with your skin type, it should work.

Bluelightbaby · 07/01/2023 00:33

Love my lumea - works brilliantly

NewYearNewCareer · 07/01/2023 00:35

It can feel a bit stingy to start with but then it’s not painful. You need to shave before treatment otherwise you smell the hair burning.
Mines worked wonders on my legs - got it out Christmas after the last session about 8 months ago.

housemaus · 07/01/2023 00:49

My Lumea is great. 6 years after I first properly treated my legs (i.e. weekly/fortnightly - can't remember which - on a schedule for a few months religiously) and they're still 80% smooth or fine blonde hair, compared what they were like before, which was stubble by 5pm if I'd shaved in the morning.

It doesn't work as well on my stomach or chin, for some reason - my (completely unproven) theory is that these are bits driven by hormones and therefore the apparent power of my wild androgen levels overpowers the laser. But legs, underarms and bikini - amazing. Would recommend.

Following! Anyone care to suggest a model, prices vary massively?

I've just bought the top of the line Lumea on this try and buy scheme. I've never used an IPL before and it's amazed me - Philips Try and Buy Lumea
