Which moisturiser for dermatica?

Tinks15 · 02/01/2023 22:32

I’m thinking of signing up to dermatica after trying skin+me last year which I didn’t really get along with.
Before going for it please can someone recommend me a really good moisturiser which will help with the dryness? I have sensitive skin & I can break out very easily so don’t want anything heavy & that’s going to clog my skin up.

If I’m honest I rarely use moisturiser due to the fact it just breaks me out however, I know for a fact I’m going to need one if I sign up for dermatica so all recommendations welcome. Thanks 😃

Can I highjack your thread too please. I have been using Dermatica for nearly six months and in the last couple of months my skin has become super sensitive and super dry. I can't find anything to put on it without it burning so really need a new moisturizer with nothing in it.

Been using Dermatica for about a year - I reduce use to one night in three when my skin feels dry/tight (can't use most moisturisers due to acne flare-ups) - and on the nights I do use it, I buffer the dry areas with Johnson's baby cream first (similar to Nivea cream).
Next challenge is to find a SPF50 that doesn't cause flare-ups as I react to every one I've tried!

I'm using medik8 spf50 moisturiser during the day and their night cream in the evening. But I have only been using Dermatica for 3 months so I'm still in the ramping up stages

Garnier Skin Active Vitamins C SPF day cream has been a game changer for me

I’ve also just started on detmatica. My skin looks better but it is also dryer so am following this

La Roche Posay Cicaplast balm is the best I've found for winter (day and night). It's thick and emollient but doesn't cause spots. I tend to downgrade for summer, often using Cerave PM day and night. Lovely texture.

You want something with no fragrance (completely unnecessary particularly when it is known to cause irritation). Also something you are happy (and can afford) to repeat buy infinitely. Consistency is key.

doctorly on youtube and insta highly recommend LRP cicaplast
their product reviews are excellent.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 03/01/2023 14:05

Curel is good, no fragrance and ceramides

Tinks15 · 03/01/2023 17:57

Thanks everyone.

@TheOGCCL I’ve read good things in the past about LRP cicaplast actually.

Do people tend to moisturise before rather than afterwards when applying dermatica as I’ve heard sometimes this can help?

I tend to not moisturise in the morning ever I only apply my SPF otherwise my skin is far too shiny/greasy.

I use skin and me and have just realised that I need to use moisturizer before applying it, rather than after.
I am currently using elf skin products which contain oats. I have skin which sounds very similar to yours. So far so good but too early to tell if I will avoid breakouts...

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/01/2023 18:08

I use serum (Sunday Riley) before applying my Dermatica at night. I've been on Dermatica for a year now so rarely get dryness/peeling but if I do, I just skip a night of applying it and use a night moisturiser (Augustinus Bader) instead. I don't moisturise and use Dermatica on the same evening.

Squirrellane · 03/01/2023 18:12

I only use the Dermatica every 2-3 nights and use Simple facial moisturiser every day and night with spf50 on top during the day. Also use the Superdrug glycolic toner every so often which helps https://www.superdrug.com/skin/face-skin-care/cleansers/face-toner/superdrug-naturally-radiant-glycolic-tonic-5-300ml/p/779938?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclsrc=aw.ds&gbraid=0AAAAADp4mz-Vhs4WHvx1sEOLivynyn9W&gbraid=0AAAAADp4mz-Vhs4WHvx1sEOLivynyn9W&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvrPQ--rAIVkq3tCh2lfAKrEAQYASABEgJYevD_BwE

In my time I've tried no moisturiser, moisturiser before and moisturiser afterwards, and both before and after. All depends on how your skin is really. Currently using moisturiser afterwards.

There are other theories online, eg that you should wait 15 mins after applying tret so your face is completely dry, and/or 15 mins after applying the tret before applying the moisturiser. There is also a debate on how often you should use tret, either not every other night in case of sensitivity OR that doing it every night builds better tolerance. It's all a bit trial and error.

The formulas from Skin and Me and Dermatica are pretty gentle.

Duvetdaysaregood · 04/01/2023 00:52

I use a face oil and cerave moisture cream

Marmitepot · 04/01/2023 01:06

I can’t use Cerave after using my Dermatica as it stings like mad.

The Cicaplast is good but a cheaper version is Cetaphil which doesn’t sting for me.

If I am particularly dry and sore then I skip the odd night. I’ve been using it for ages and still get really dry/sometimes sore now and again.

For daytime I like Nivea shine control spf 50 or Altruist anti pigment/redness spf 50 also

QueefofSheena · 04/01/2023 01:33

I wait 15 mins after Dermetica tret but I don’t use a specific moisturiser, just whatever is next in my hoard, currently a No7 Renew & Restore night cream. I’ve been using Beauty Pie SPF50. I like it and it’s light feeling, but I’ll be switching to LRP when that runs out as I’m not currently a member. I’m tolerating tret fine nightly on my face but I do react on my neck where it sometimes ‘wanders’ down.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/01/2023 12:07

I liked Cerave, to rebuild skin barrier

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 04/01/2023 12:08

E.L.F daily hydration moisturiser is great
