Can I get away with not going for a Dyson?

Hair dryer making a very peculiar sound. It's on its way out. It's done me well but now it's time to look to a new one. Dysons are amazing but my gosh - the price! Amazon has various rip offs at about £35. Will they do the job? My hair is a bob. Pretty straight naturally. Any advice?

I tried a dyson and sent it back....my hair is quote fine, bob to just above shoulder length and incredibly straight!.
I found it too powerfull and my hair ended up in knots....I have to say I was gutted 🤣

I love my dyson but if I were to go back to a cheaper hairdryer I’d got for something like Babyliss, some on offer in boots

Thanks 🙏

Bayliss are always good. GHD one is excellent.

Personally I wouldn't touch a Dyson with a barge pole, but you do what you think best!

Dyson are rubbish, I regret buying mine.

It's no better than a standard hairdryer, the grey coating on the hairdryer is peeling on mine & it looks shit.

Hepzibar · 02/01/2023 19:39

Parlux are excellent, half the price of a Dyson. Had mine years after recommendation on here

Chippy1234 · 02/01/2023 19:45

Dyson is ok. I have one. It looks stylish but I wouldn’t buy it again because of the price…

StormObelisk · 02/01/2023 19:46

Another Parlux vote, made in Italy, last for decades.

Si1ver · 02/01/2023 19:57

Love my GHD one.

I asked my hairdresser recently whether she thought expensive hairdryers are worth it. Apparently not at all, and it's all about the brush you use. And you shouldn't use your hairdryer on the highest setting.

StormObelisk · 02/01/2023 20:19

I can highly recommend these ceramic brushes.

It’s more about the wattage, I’ve always liked my ghd one. I’ve just got a Shark flex style and whilst the wattage is much less, it doesn’t seem to take much longer and my hair feels better for it.

MiddleParking · 02/01/2023 20:21

I wouldn’t bother with anything other than Parlux.

allboysherebutme · 02/01/2023 20:25

I got a GHD on offer love it. X

What is a good wattage to aim for?

I'd say yes but simply because I thought the Dyson hairdryer wasn't particularly good. The babyliss 3q I'd been using for several years before I splashed out on the Dyson was (and remains) better.

The Dyson always left my hair flatter somehow and tangled it up, it also didn't dry my hair any faster than my existing dryer (the 3q) and wasn't any lighter. The only benefit was that it looked nice and was a bit quieter.

I've stuck with my babyliss 3q but will probably get a Parlux dryer when this gives up the ghost as I've had one before and rated it.

I bought one of those £30 ionic dryers on Amazon that looks similar and it is great very happy with it - various settings and do like it.
