Anyone else undecided about whether to Botox?

I’m 46 and although my skin is good and I don’t have too many wrinkles I know over once the Menopause kicks in they will get worse.

Thinking about a bit of Botox on my frown lines but don’t want to go down a rabbit hole of wanting more and more! And I definitely don’t want filler.
I also have quite heavy eyelids so would be nervous about having it on my forehead and crows feet as don’t want to look v different or have even more droopy eyelids.

also worried that once you have it you can never give it up!

Does anyone just have one area and have managed to just stick with that?

anyone else undecided?

I was going to start getting my number 11s done but cost of living increases has made me think twice. They do seem to have softened since I started using retinol (only The Inkey List one - I figured if I was going to splash out on a subscription for a prescription one I might as well just pay for botox.).

rainydogday · 02/01/2023 20:06

I am 44, have had three lots of Botox. I love it. I don't go for the Frozen look. Just my 11's, Crows feet and a little on the forehead. The 11's have made a massive difference! I literally have gone 4 months between and love it. I am sure I frown in my sleep and wake up with a massive crown mark inbetween my eyebrows. Don't do anything else and my family don't know. I feel great!

Of course, and if you're happy with that @KidCudi

I think the £150 was possibly for three areas. I honestly can't remember.

Because they see the worst celeb offenders and assume that’s the norm.

But most normal women just do it to fix a particular issue as they are not insecurely employed based on their appearances.

But like well applied makeup, you can’t tell with good, subtle work.

Marmitepot · 02/01/2023 23:22

Yeah the price is putting me off. A friend who goes to a local place pays £280 for 1 area and £320 for 2 areas.

this is south london and there are cheaper places in the City!

I’m 33 and i already do botox for my cheeks. It will wear off in 3 months anyway if you dont like the results. But you will like the results. Its amazing. Just do it.

katesbushh · 03/01/2023 00:16

I'm early 40s and have been having it since I was 36 ish.
I love it and would never not have it, I've also never had any other work done fillers etc.
I don't look frozen and still have movement. I just don't look so angry.

You could ask them to give you a brow lift, I have that as the older I got the more heavy my eyes were.
I've not long trained in asthetics ( I'm a hcp) and the only thing I would say is be extremely careful who you choose.
I may be biased but I would always recommend someone with a medical background.
I've had my gp doing mine for years.
And now I do hers 😆

katesbushh · 03/01/2023 00:20

Also if something seems to good to be true it probably is.

£90 for one area would be at a loss. The botox, insurance, consumables like syringes cost more than that.
The only way it could be offered so low is if it is imported from somewhere questionable.
Or they're splitting vials between patients and that's a massive no no.

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 03/01/2023 00:34

I'm not sure if the 'slippery slope' is botox addiction, or just your face developing more wrinkly trouble spots as time goes on!

I started with 11s in my early 40s and now do my forehead and crows feet in my 50s. 11s is a no brainer - works brilliantly, and doesn't affect your ability to 'emote' other than scowling.

With my forehead, I wish I'd started earlier as the lines are really hard to tackle now. Like you say OP, it's been trial and error with hooded eyes and ending up looking (more) tired and droopy for the first few weeks until it settles. This time I have Botox fairly high up on my forehead - plus 11s - but have left the wrinkles directly above my eyebrows alone.

Crows feet is a fairly low dosage just to soften them and hopefully prevent more, my eyes still crinkle when I smile.

I did try it on my chin once for the dreaded 'orange peel' look while chewing but didn't like it or find it particularly effective and haven't continued.

Next step will probably be cheek filler as a 'scaffold' to pull up my jowls and soften nasiolabial folds. I am in no hurry for that though, still feeling pretty good for my age and spending the rest of my beauty budget on active ingredient skincare and good hair.

CLLock · 03/01/2023 15:21

Advice please!
I've had my consultation with a nurse led practitioner today. I said I was interested in having my 11s done, that's it. She said if I just had that area done it would give me a surprised look (raise my eyebrows), so suggested I have my forehead and 11s.
I don't know what to think about this...has anyone had anything similar said to them?

Charl1009 · 03/01/2023 15:22

Has anybody had Baby Botox before? I’ve been considering Botox for a while now and as I’ve just turned 30 I’ve decided to treat myself after reading this thread and I’m booked for a consultation this Friday.

Looking to smooth my 11s as they’re quite defined especially once I’ve got foundation on and I’ve heard baby Botox is a good preventative for future wrinkling

I’m 45 and just developed 11s. I had BB done at the start of Dec and absolutely love it! The only thing is that it feels like it’s starting to wear off - lines aren’t showing at all but there is more movement than a month ago.

Marmitepot · 03/01/2023 21:09

What’s baby Botox? Is it just a smaller dose?

OP posts:
FfayeN · 03/01/2023 21:26

I've committed the MN sin and not read the whole post, however just go for it! It's temporary so if you don't like it it will wear off and you won't look any different to what you do now (nothing like fillers!). I guarantee you won't regret it though xx

Charl1009 · 03/01/2023 21:27

@Shitfather ah no that’s the one think I’m worried about getting baby Botox is that it won’t last long at all

@Marmitepot yes from what I understand it’s the same strength as normal Botox but just a smaller dose injected

krill · 03/01/2023 21:29

Yes @Charl1009 is right. Smaller dose. Preventative if you don't have fine lines yet or if you want range of movement. More or less anyway.

Marmitepot · 03/01/2023 21:33

Thanks

Isabelle70 · 03/01/2023 21:36

@CLLock I have my 11's and crows feet done, no surprised eyebrows here.
The Botox relaxes the muscles so I am not sure how relaxing the muscles in the centre of your brows will cause a surprised look.
If you only want 11's go for just that now and tell her you will see what the effect is and you may change your mind at the next appointment.

MonChoufleur123 · 03/01/2023 21:48

Really helpful thread thank you. Can anyone recommend somewhere in Cheshire or Greater Manchester?

Franticbutterfly · 03/01/2023 21:54

I've had it around my eyes three times, the first time it worked really well, but the second and third times it didn't. I believe this is because I have an auto immune disease (psoriasis) and so my body just seems to metabolise the toxin. It's a shame as I'd have carried on with it, that first time my crows feet disappeared, it was really remarkable.

Ricco12 · 03/01/2023 22:15

So I'm 43 and wanted it, my sister best friend works in this field so I visited her practise. She said to me it's great and you will look younger and feel better. But you need to be in a position to maintain it at least 3 times a year ...for a very long time

Because when you stop you will hate how you look in the mirror and that can be hard to live with . So unless you want to commit to it long term think hard about it

I decided it was too big a long term financial commitment so didn't get it. But I was glad of her honesty.

Shitfather · 03/01/2023 22:46

I desperately didn’t want the frozen look, hence, opted for BB, but at 450, it will be too expensive to maintain. I’ll be looking for cheaper practitioners. Very happy I had I done as the results are amazing.

Marmitepot · 03/01/2023 22:51

The cost does worry me,I don’t have much disposable income so need to give it some thought for that reason also.
