Help! Grown-up Skincare Routine Required --- MNs' suggestions to set me on the road to Yummydom...

I have a birthday coming up next month and DH wants ideas. 18 weeks post-partum, I am determined to cast off the chains of Slummydom and become fresh-faced and glowing (even if I am still in my PJs at lunchtime ).

I think at the grand old age of 31, I need a grown up skincare routine. What are your magic potions? Any miracle-in-a-bottle suggestions? Oh wise MNetters, help me become beautiful...

having tried lots I have settled in Liz Earle (cleanse and polish), followed by Clains self tan fo face and/or beauty flash balm for those hideous mornings.

I like Liz Earle too, but you'll probably also get a fair few recommendations for Dermalogica - supposed to be good too.

sophierosie · 03/02/2008 22:21

Ooh - this was me about two years ago til I went for a dermalogica facial - they do 'facial mapping' and basically set up a tailored skincare routine - I only use the cleanser, exfoliant and moisturiser on a daily basis and then treat myself to other masks etc every now and again!

(see)

TBH i would user a cheaper cleanser and toner and splash out on the mostoriser... i spend more on the night cream.... and eye cream
and use a lighter day cream

funnypeculiar · 03/02/2008 22:26

Another (new) Liz Earle fan here

ShrinkingViolet · 03/02/2008 22:28

my vote goes to Liz Earle cleanse and polish here too

Birdly · 04/02/2008 08:09

The one thing that really does make my tired skin glow is Origins Never A Dull Moment.

As far as moisturisers go, I'm a big fan of Decleor's Hydra Floral. If your skin's a bit dry, like mine, you can use the Neroli oil too, which really helps.

I like Liz Earle, too, and also keep threatening to try Dermalogica as everyone seems to think it's the doggy's doo-dahs! If there's a Dermalogica salon near you, I'd be tempted to go for a prescription facial, stock up on the goodies and then give DH the (alarming) bill!

Enjoy!

Eve Lom's cleanser is a miracle product.

And Benefit's Dear John moisturiser is really lovely and rich.

BabyValentine · 04/02/2008 13:02

I've heard alot about Cleanse and Polish recently so I might try that. And I have tried a Dermalogica Microexfoliant somethingorother tester which was pretty good - and I do like the idea of exfoliating every day.

Off to google the Benefit stuff now...

I have just bought Liz Earle C & P on the advice of people on here and I'm thrilled with it.

ThingOne · 04/02/2008 13:30

Liz Earle sends you nice little packages to try. Very grown up little wash bags and nice samples. And no need to go to a shop with a bored child .

EffiePerine · 04/02/2008 13:33

I went through a similar epiphany after DS was born (if I was getting no sleep, I was going to moisturise, dammit). I find Boots No 7 stuff really good (maybe I'm not that picky_ - easy to find, easy to use and seems to do the job . I use their bsai cleanser, anti-ageing night cream and sorbet day cream (combination skin) plus they do an eye gel/cream duo thing that is pretty good too.

docket · 04/02/2008 13:34

I love Liz Earle too! It's definitely the best stuff I've tried and whilst it's not cheap cheap it's not outrageously expensive either

janeite · 04/02/2008 20:14

I agree with Birdly - Never A Dull Moment and Hydra Floral are both ace.

I didn't get on with Liz earle but it smells scrummy.

Get a serum - Dr Andrew whatshisname for Origins if you're feeling rich but otherwise the Olay Regenerist one is good - it really helps to wake up skin before moisturising.

The Decleor oils are really good too.
