Shopping in Rome

Where should I shop on an upcoming weekend in Rome?

I've Googled, but only found Expedia-type articles about outlet malls and genetic luxury shopping strips.

I don't want Fendi or Balenciaga; I want to know who the boutique, up-and-coming local designers are.

What can I only buy in Italy? Do you have a hidden gem to recommend?

Grazie in advance!

There was a street off one of the big squares (Navona I think) that had mainly small boutiques and vintage shops. Bit of a grungy / hipster kind of vibe only more polished. Is that the kind of thing you're after? I'll try and remember the name.

Ok I think that street was Via del Governo Vecchio, near Piazza Navona. Also the Trastevere neighbourhood was good for independent shops, restaurants etc and had a good flea / craft market on Sundays. I was last there about 6 years ago so don't know how well any of it survived the pandemic.

These links are in Italian but you can see some interesting shops: www.cosafarearoma.it/vie-dove-fare-shopping-a-roma/

Have a look at some Italian magazines, not Vogue as it is too high fashion, but Grazia or Amica www.amica.it

I’m part Italian and lived in Italy for a while. The items I bought there that I really cherish are a pair of sunglasses bought in an independent optician shop in Milan and a pair of boots from a shop called Pollini (www.pollini.com/it/donna). I think shoes, bags and accessories are the main strengths of local Italian fashion, more so than clothes.
