Better service in fancy shops if you dress up?

Do you think you get better service in fancy shops if you dress up a bit? I went in today and was looking at perfumes and none of the assistants asked me if I needed help so I just walked out again. Maybe my jeans were a bit scruffy?

Most of the seriously rich people I know are the scruffiest so any shop assistant who judges likely spend on that criteria is likely to miss out.

I live in scruffy jeans but I do notice better service if I'm carrying an expensive handbag whilst wearing them.

Seriously rich, scruffy people don't always spend that freely though ime. So possibly the shop assistants are on the lookout for flashy people rather than scruffy but wealthy ones.

I can't say I've noticed this. I don't go into expensive shops very often though tbf!

I'm half-asleep and I misread your title as 'better service in fancy dress shops if you dress up' and had a vision of someone wandering round town in a clown outfit.Xmas Blush

Retail staff have been surveyed on this and people wearing activewear were deemed to be wealthier than those wearing designer clothing. Not quite what you're asking, but maybe stick your yoga pants on next time :)

Excellent thank you next time I'll take my fanciest handbag! Maybe they were all a bit tired after the festive shoppers.

Did you ask for help though because I would hate to be approached if I were happily browsing on my own.

Carrying a large bag and looking shifty helps

I find I get better service if I make eye contact with an available member of staff, say good morning and ask for whatever advice/help I want.
