Beauty treats and must haves for teenage chemo patient

Please could I have your recommendations for nice, soothing and calming beauty (or other essential items) for a teenage girl? She's having chemo treatment and feels really yuck. It will be a gift from me and her friend's mums. We want her to feel loved and thought about. Thanks for any replies and suggestions.

I would ask to move this to the style and beauty boards. There's lots of enthusiasts there who can offer thoughtful suggestions.

I think La Roche Posay is a lovely brand that's not aggravating.

Maybe a little home spa kit, an eye mask, hand cream, nail varnish, a sheet mask, a lush sensitive bath bomb, a candle?

If you can check with the team who are caring for her. The reason I say this is because two of my aunts underwent chemo and what they were allowed and not varied massively.

www.notanotherbunchofflowers.com

this website has good ideas and was set up by someone following their cancer diagnosis.

It's not beauty, but maybe something like some audible credits might be a good plan? If she's sitting having infusions/feeling rough, just being able to close your eyes and listen might be nice?

pinkrocker · 28/12/2022 21:03

Thank you @mumsnet can you move this for me?

I agree with checking (perhaps with her parents as they’ll know via her care team) as there might be items she isn’t allowed/would aggravate or irritate her sensitive skin at this time!

Is it just beauty items? Something like really soft slouch socks or even a cosy hoodie might be nice. For skincare I would steer clear of anything too ‘beauty’ relayed - her skin may be sensitive and broken out and I wouldn’t want to draw attention/put her thoughts on it. Maybe some of those face masks you get in places like lush. They have different ingredients and can be kept in the fridge so they’re nice and cold and refreshing. My dd loves them. Also maybe some lip products? I remember when our aunt was going through chemo she was always looking for good lip balms and oils because her lips would crack a lot for some reason.

‘Beauty’ related, I meant. So I would stick with healing/refreshing skin products rather than ones aimed at beautifying.

I would say nothing with a strong smell/scent as that can make you feel nauseous.

Lip balm
Hand cream
Fluffy socks
Silk pillowcase if losing hair
Bamboo head cap
An extra long phone charge cable.
Puzzle books
Magazines
Queasy sweets
A solid bag with a handle to carry things from upstairs to downstairs.
A diary with a few things planned for after treatment.

I bought a friend a power of ugg boots because her feet were always cold. The long ones obviously go up to about the Metcalfe and they were a great help

Brilliant, thanks. I'll definitely go for socks and eyemask so far!
