Is it possible to have my hair dyed if I love swimming?

I love swimming, it's one of my favourite ways to relax and I generally go at least a few times a week.

I haven't ever dyed my hair, I've been lucky till now that it's been quite a lovely golden brown colour that goes blonder in the sun

But I am feeling crap about how I look (on a hefty dose of steroids that have given me moon face) and my hair is getting a bit of grey in it and it just looks dull. I have no issue with the idea of going grey naturally and think grey hair can look beautiful on people, but right now I just would like the option to add a bit of a glow.

But I don't know if it's possible? Would swimming just ruin it?.

DD is a dyed blonde. Swims regularly. Front crawl & tumble turns. Says the swimming has had no effect on the colour: she braids her long hair & swims without a cap.

She does wash her hair faithfully frequently at home (never at pool); maybe swimming would have some effect if she didn't wash a lot already.

There is a rumour that bleached hair can go green from the chlorine but I've never had it happen. If it does, ketchup is the solution. Writing that seems like someone has been pulling my leg but apparently not. I do think it dries hair out a lot.

More worrying is how they have turned the temp down in a lot of pools now ti save money.

I have seen it happen but only in hotel pools abroad in the 90’s

i’ve been to nearly every pool in the uk with swimmer dc, never seen it happen anywhere else.

presumably whatever they use in the UK doesn’t have that effect.

I have dyed dark brown hair, and I swim four times a week, I do use a cap but the water still gets in underneath and it doesn’t seem to affect the colour.

I have light brown dyed hair every 8 weeks, as I would be very grey without it. I have swim 3 times a week for the past year and have noticed no difference at all in my hair. Neither has my hairdresser.

I do use Philip Kingsley Pure Colour Shampoo and conditioner after each swim and a swimming cap.

Go for it @SweetSakura I absolutely love swimming and hope you get into it too.

I agree with not using leave in products on hair before swimming as it degrades water quality.

Quite apart from anything else I could not be doing with the messing around before swimming.
