Dryrobe

Looking at purchasing one of these after borrowing a friend's for wet dog walks in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. I've seen there are alternatives available, such as Ocean Robe, which cost a lot less. Is the cost of a Dryrobe (£160.00) worth it??

The M&S one is lovely - a friend of mine has it. S

My Lands End duvet coat is in its 12th winter. It's been brilliantly warm and hard wearing.

DS's bought me a dry robe for my birthday for swimming - it's great for changing under, and big enough to wear over my Lands End coat after swimming and on cold and wet touchline days.

In other words, you need all of them!

Yes, I do actually wear my dryrobe over my Janelle when it's totally arctic. I spend a lot of time hanging around in cold places not doing much though (sailing roadie). Would not be necessary just for standard life.

Angeldelight81 · 28/12/2022 16:55

Sicilian Murphy was pictured in a dry robe on the set of peaky blinders which set them all off, thinking they need one of them. Perhaps they do come in handy if you’re filming at four in the morning in Liverpool.

I really hope nobody is looking at me thinking I'm posing in a dryrobe- I had no idea they were even a thing. Mind you, I am a worn-out middle-aged mother-slave trapped on dinghy parks amongst other similarly entrenched roadie-parents. I don't think posing will be crossing anyone's mind.

Fenella123 · 28/12/2022 17:03

I would say yes, they are built LIKE TANKS and OH's is the one bit of clothing he has not managed to destroy - still looks new (he manages to fray, rip, stretch, stain everything bless him). It goes over coats so useful in super cold weather. Big pockets so good for shopping. Very tough.

schoolworries22 · 28/12/2022 17:17

I used one when I went on a swimming retreat and the room came with one and I didn't get on with it at all. The sleeves were too short and wide and I didn't find it anywhere near as warm as my usual jumper and Didriksons parka for after swimming. I definitely wouldn't get one for pitch standing or dog walking. I can see the appeal of changing underneath it but I personally just found it annoying.

Softpebbles · 28/12/2022 17:20

I have a Swimzi and have to say have worn it in really bad weather to walk the dog as it is such a good length. It has pull cords to make it a better fit and keep you warmer. Lovely deep pockets. Nice hood too.

I don’t get changed in mine as I use a poncho.

Findyourneutralspace · 28/12/2022 17:23

I love my Passenger robe. It’s not as bulky as some makes and it’s got a cosy Sherpa lining. It comes with a carry bag too so it can be packed small. I mostly use it for outdoor swimming but it’s been super handy for camping and festivals - it’s like an outdoor dressing gown.

If ever I have a Dryrobe on it's because the owner is on the water and I'm looking after it for them/waiting to provide a dinghy trolley in bitter weather for DC who is wearing 27 layers under their drysuit. Posing it is not!

daisyjgrey · 28/12/2022 17:42

I've got the long sleeve camo one for swimming/post sailing etc. I do sometimes use it for dog walks on the beach if the weather is grim but it's really hot, and I'm short so it's nearly ankle length. I wouldn't want to do any distance/uphill in it.

It does have a pocket on the inside that fits a mini hot water bottle however, and they are pretty indestructible.

Causticlimeandsoda · 28/12/2022 17:48

I’m another for a Seasalt Janelle. Rugby pitch sidelines in absolute torrential rain and kept warm and completely dry. Not pretty but a great investment.

Ha! I have my own now because I kept wrestling DS out of his (erm... surely it's briefing now... leave the dryrobe here...) which seemed mean.

mrsalfstewart · 28/12/2022 18:05

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree I think you're right! I now want the Dryrobe, Seasalt Janelle and Didriksons 🤣. I also looked at the Passenger Robe with the Sherpa lining and also want that. Decisions decisions ....!

Thank you to everybody who has replied. Definitely food for thought!

Mine is a Wild Moose. I bought it for swimming, but I often use it to avoid the weather too. It’s really warm and waterproof.

spidersenses · 28/12/2022 18:14

I second what others have said. I have a dry robe for post sea swimming, but I wouldn't use it for dog walking. It's big and cumbersome, and I would overheat.

Watch out for them in Aldi if you're set on a dry robe type thing. A few friends got their version for a bargain price earlier this year - but think it was late spring.

ShornTheSheeep · 28/12/2022 18:17

I have the camo/ pink fur lined dryrobe. I got the age 10-13 one and it's still absolutely enormous

I wear it to drive 2 miles to the pool I use. I have my costume underneath it and nothing else

I then just Chuck it on as soon as I get out the pool again and drive home where I shower etc

I would possibly wear it on a rural walk but I wouldn't wear it out and about in town I don't think as it's quite cumbersome

Avocadomafia · 07/01/2023 18:52

I have one and I love to wear this everyday in the winter. It is quite bulky so I won't like to wear it to go shopping or exercise etc. But so far it was such a cosy and warm company for me especially when I want to go for a walk in any weather condition. Just pop out with my dryrobe and trainer shoes- no umbrella. No bags(it has deep pockets with zips)..I didnt think twice about how it can look to others when I bought it-because it was exactly what I wish I want to have and wear in the winter. However funny it looks I will wear it as long as it lasts..super cosy!!!

changedusername190 · 08/01/2023 17:45

I've got an equidry which is lovely and cozy for horses dogs etc

mrsalfstewart · 09/01/2023 15:54

The Wild Moose and Equidry versions also look great and slightly cheaper too.

Wild Moose robes are fabulous, I have change robe envy, but my dryrobe is tough as old boots. Wild Moose are a small business local to me.

Kelp23 · 19/01/2023 21:41

I have a gorilla one. I'm a swim teacher and regularly have to jump out of the pool at the web be of lessons to do school pickup so i can throw it on over my costume and get to school quickly.

SleekMamma · 19/01/2023 21:50

Mr Dryrobe was on radio 4 today at lunchtime. Fun fact for you there!
Never does sales and only sells Dryrobes.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 19/01/2023 22:00

I have a dryrobe for sea swimming but have never worn it for any other reason. However lots of women round here do wear them just out and about (dog-walking etc) and I must admit I'm considering it - they are so warm.and cosy and cover a multitude of sins.

I'm worried about ending up on Instagram on dryrobecount though 😁

Fcuk38 · 27/12/2022 20:16

Loads of people wear these at my sons sort- not swimming- and I don’t get it as they don’t look at all warm or that waterproof. Complete and utter “ look at me” people.

They're Dry Robe Types 😂
