I'm looking to buy a warm winter walking boot. I would like wool or fur lined inside as my feet get cold, as waterproof and stylish as possible too.

Another fan of the sorel

I'm thinking about investing in Sorel for next winter. Is there any pair with decent grip for snowy and icy mornings? X

Use Wool-rich socks (Eg: Darn Tough) and sheepskin liners (Celtic &Co) in leather walking boots that fit well.

I don't think they are particularly grippy. That's why I suggested Mammals - they have ice grips in the sole you can just flick out when you need them, like these:

I have these winter waterproof boots from Keen, they're insulated and very comfortable:

Love my Scarpa hiking boots (ranger), I've had them for 5 years still going strong, wore them on a hiking holiday in Ethiopia, worn them on skiing holidays, keep my feet warm and so comfy

Gardengirl108 · 22/01/2023 19:23

I’ve just got these ones, waterproof, comfy and warm. Also this company is good with returns and and exchanges in my experience. £60 plus £5 p&p.

My go to winter boot for snow & super cold are these Hi-tec ones. I have had them for about 8 years now.
I luckily picked them up in a second hand shop for £20, never been worn as still had tags on & were perfect but no price, but I would pay full price for them as they are amazing.
I usually struggle to get zip or opening free boots in but these I can manage. I’ve been in 2ft snow for hours in them & feel stayed toasty meaning everything else did too.
These are also super waterproof as my foot sliding off a raised tuft of grass into a watery bog that topped my boot yet they still didn’t let water, i think the boot neck fluff kept it out, proved that to me without a doubt.
I have been toying with getting some Sorell’s for a while but can’t find a colour combination I like yet & finding a spare £150+, to splurge on something I’ll try not use for a month a year at most, is a bit tough after Xmas.

I have the mountain warehouse ski boots that were suggested by the first reply. Really comfortable and very warm. I use for dog walks. Great value

If you want warm boots you can walk in, but more for everyday / not country walks timberland do some nice fur lined boots. Their boots are really good quality.

I would second the socks being the most important though! Get some proper winter hiking socks. They are expensive but so warm and padded. Your feet will love them if they get cold.

waltzingparrot · 23/01/2023 19:54

You could always buy a lambswool liner to put under your foot.

Phoenixrising1 · 25/01/2023 12:39

I have PF, wide feet and bunions and have these. I walk a lot each week, they are v comfortable, warm and waterproof and imo worth the investment

I like Salomon for boots and Bridgadale socks as a warm combination, I used to wear them for cold winter nights working outside, including in Norway, when I was in the forces. If you want a more traditional type of boot, Altberg so some good winter boots. I hate cold feet and am a big exponent of the ‘spend your money on your boots and your bed, because if you’re not in one, you’re in the other’ school of thought.

I’m also a big fan of goretex lining for winter boots.
