Liberty Beauty Drop for a cheapskate???

Sturmundcalm · 26/12/2022 11:07

I've been contemplating subscribing for a while...

I like the fact it's "free" and the money would be there to spend; like that it would be a surprise; have read some of the threads on here at times and some of the stuff looks lovely; only a few times a year is good.

BUT - I normally buy everything on offer/sale (clothes, make up, house stuff), and I'm worried I'd end up grudging their prices even when I had the money sitting there to be spent. I also went off the normal beauty box subscription stuff when I tried it years ago cause I ended up with too much stuff I wouldn't use and most of my friends/sisters are like me and don't actually wear much make-up/perfume so not easy to pass on.

Anyone who is a waste-conscious cheapskate got the beauty drop subscription and like it??

I wouldn't say I was a cheapskate, but I do like a bargain and hate waste and I like it so far. For me, the July box was better than October, but I loved the hand cream in the October box.

I've not spent anything yet, I'm waiting for an offer 😆

I never pay full price for anything if I can avoid it so I do see where you’re coming from! For me, the beauty drop has been worth it as I’ve used it to discover new brands - it makes up for the lack of great discounts a bit. However I only tend to spend my beauty credit when they do a 10-15% off sale on all beauty, or triple points or similar.

Boppertini · 26/12/2022 16:18

Oh and I like the free shipping - I find that’s where it evens out a bit with other sites as there is no minimum spend for the free shipping on Liberty whereas I might be tempted to up my spend on another site to qualify for free shipping

Also the fact the boxes are quarterly I find means quality over quantity as there's less stuff. I've either loved every item or sold it very quickly on Vinted.

I did mine this year to "save" for the advent and I enjoyed opening it over the last few weeks but that itch is definitely scratched.

My quandary now is timing the cancellation to benefit from as many boxes as possible and the right side of payment being taken Grin

I’m been a member since the start and am thinking of cancelling soon. I’m like you - prefer to get things as cheaply as I can, so have found I’ll buy stuff from Cult Beauty and Space Nk at 20% off rather than use my credit to buy it at Liberty. Liberty has a limited brand selection too. So the credit just kind of piles up. I thought I might spend it on the advent but it didn’t appeal enough in the end (if you do want the Liberty advent though, it’s a great way of saving for it). The good thing is that you can spend credit on anything at Liberty - not just beauty - and you also get free shipping on everything, so I’ve bought a few birthday presents with my credit. The boxes are a nice little treat, but the sizes are pretty small and I haven’t been blown away by anything in them. I think the thing is not to get too swayed by the boxes, but consider whether it’s worth your while accruing Liberty credit to spend - then the boxes are an added extra.

I’m the opposite, I intend on saving my credit for a larger purchase, either the advent or for when a goody bag is available but every month I find myself using it! Liberty often have sales and you can use the voucher on any of their products, it’s not limited to beauty. So I pick up gifts and fabric when they’re on sale.

On the waste point, I don’t wear make up and give away products I won’t use. Between my mum, friends and donating to an organisation that takes care of homeless girls, there is always someone who’d be delighted with a little beauty gift!

LoveLabradors · 26/12/2022 20:47

I tend to save my credit for the sales of if there is a good GWP. The credit can be spent on anything not just beauty. I am also a member of the liberty collective so get vouchers for that as well. I’m now enjoying perusing the sale and have bought a lovely necklace and a heavily reduced cashmere hat with my credit. And an Emma bridgewater jug too.

I'm both a beauty drop member and a very cautious (skinflint) spender. I don't spend on myself often so I quite like it as it feels relatively guilt free when you go to spend it and at least you get back as credit exactly what you've paid. The free shipping is also a bonus.

I saved mine up and then used it to pay for Christmas presents (plus a couple of treats for myself) so that was money I didn't then have to spend on those gifts.

I don't think I would ever subscribe to any box or service where I was out of pocket for effectively, mystery items. In that circumstance I'd rather just save up myself and buy things I actually want to try or own.

Mercurial123 · 27/12/2022 02:05

I buy homeware from Liberty and see it as saving towards a future purchase. The box is just an added bonus. You can't please everyone some things work better than others it's never going to be perfect. The items I don't use I give to friends.

I saved my credit this year and used most of it on Black Friday so I still got the stuff I wanted discounted.
