Dyson hair dryer and air wrap worth the money?

MistyIsland · 25/12/2022 21:14

I have been given a voucher by my parents which will cover the cost of the dyson?

my question is are they worth it?

currently using cloud 9’s…both hair dryer, straighteners and curling wand

It’s hard to say really cos it’s down to personal preference, hair type and use!
I have the hairdryer and would definitely say it’s worth the money and would replace it if it broke. It dries my hair and my kids in super quick time!
I also have the air wrap and again I love it but I have hair that won’t curl properly using normal curling rings (just falls out) plus difficulty in using normal hair tongs, so this helps a lot.
I also have the straighteners and out of all would say I WOULDN’T replace these. The fact they are cordless is great but they don’t heat up enough and they pull on the hair. Plus the heat doesn’t last long and I find them heavy and bulky. I think they could improve these immensely! I prefer my GHD’s.
Hope that helps!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/12/2022 21:23

The hairdryer is amazing.

I find the Airwrap tricky to use.

PleaseTakeItOff · 25/12/2022 21:25

I love it but it really depends on how much time you soend on your hair and what kind of hair you have. I have thick, shoulder length slightly kinky hair and I absolutely love it. My ds has long curls that go halfway down his back and it does nothing for him. The brush doesn’t straighten it enough and the curler bit doesn’t seem to work on already curly hair.

Vinvertebrate · 25/12/2022 21:53

I love mine but learning the technique for the curler is really important. It’s also not exactly quick - thick wiry hair here though.

pinkyponkyplink · 25/12/2022 21:53

I love the hairdryer but I also have a parlux one that was recommended on here and would say it is equally as good. I decided not to get the air wrap after so many mixed reviews

antipodeancanary · 25/12/2022 21:57

I have fine shoulder length hair. Sent the airwrap back. Gave me no curl or body. If you buy from Dyson direct, you can return.

Delorestormborn · 26/12/2022 07:03

I want one but I’m so cynical after buying Dyson Vacuum cleaners and having them both not last much longer that a year. I want to believe the hair driers are better but they’re so expensive.

CoffeeBoy · 26/12/2022 07:31

Dd got one yesterday, only had a quick try but it doesn’t seem to do anything for either of us.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 26/12/2022 10:13

In all honesty, no. It's definitely one of my regret purchases. I wanted to sell it but my daughter has taken it for herself, to only use the hairdryer part! Most expensive hairdryer in the world! She uses a curling iron for curls, rather than the Dyson.

AnotherBadHairDay · 26/12/2022 10:30

I love mine and would not hesitate to replace it if it breaks. It takes a bit of practice and I find it really easy now, but time consuming. I have to allow around 45mins for the best result. I had heated rollers previously which took the same time overall but the heat would leave my hair a bit frazzled. The Dyson I could use every few days without damaging my hair.

BabyFour2023 · 26/12/2022 10:36

I have the hairdryer and the air wrap and love them both. My DD and I have long, thick hair and it gives us a lovely curly blow look.
I’ve never used the straighteners so can’t comment on them.

BenchOfCompany · 26/12/2022 10:45

The Airwrap takes a bit to get used to, I watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube and I bought it directly from Dyson so I could return it. It will curl my hair but you need to work out what products to use in your hair to hold the curl. I have to use a texturising spray that adds a bit of volume and I use a hold styling spray too on wet hair. Then I dry my hair almost completely dry, curl it and set it with hairspray.

There are a lot of shit and incorrect tutorials on Dyson where people try to do their hair from soaking wet or they wind their hair by twisting the wand. That isn't how you do it. I find it much easier to use than a curling iron mainly because I am not holding the wand over my head with my arms raised.

Definitely buy it from Dyson so you can return it if you are unhappy. My friend has the hairdryer and highly rates it. I use the hairdryer with the airwrap, it is good but not mind blowing.

EveryoneIsAnAlienSomewhere · 26/12/2022 11:28

My Dyson airwrap just celebrated its 4th birthday. I have coloured, fine (but lots of it) shoulder length hair and for me it’s lived up to its promise. It gets used daily as I wash my hair everyday. My hair is in great condition compared to when I used GHDs and wands, and I would buy a new one if my current one packed in, but I know it doesn’t work for everyone.

Dustybarn · 26/12/2022 11:36

My Dyson hairdryer lasted about 18 months then packed up and I went back to a GHD hairdryer which works just as well. The Dyson hairdryer is ridiculously overpriced for what it offers in my opinion.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 26/12/2022 11:45

I got one for Christmas. I have fine, just longer than shoulder length hair.

First impressions: Curling is fine once you get the hang of it and I am not worried about giving myself 3rd degree burns. I probably need to work out how best to get curls to stay (I was only messing last night after Christmas dinner and drinks.

However I used the brush and Coanda smoothing thingy this morning on unwashed hair and my hair now looks freshly washed and dried. That’s a complete win (and looks completely out of place with my oodie and pyjamas!)

Quaffee · 26/12/2022 11:46

I love my Airwrap and have used it daily for over 2 years. You can straighten, curl or bounce. It does take some getting used to but it's so quick and easy once you do. It's much better if your hair is in good condition too, it won't work miracles on damaged hair. Ditch the silicones and condition regularly and don't use lots of styling products. I honestly feel I don't have bad hair days at all now.

MistyIsland · 26/12/2022 12:11

My hair is fine but lots of it and very very curly with 3 different curls types I normally blow dry and straighten then a couple of days later curl it

mixed bag of reviews I may hold off on getting on

Have a look at the shark FlexStyle for an alternative. Seems to be getting really good feedback on social media for comparison to the airwrap and is half the price.

IloveJudgeJudy · 26/12/2022 18:21

Dyson hairdryer definitely worth it. I've had mine 6/7 years. I don't rate the air wrap. I wanted to but had to return it as it frazzled my hair.

SleekMamma · 26/12/2022 18:24

I was following the instructions and half drying hair first. Curls always dropped in hours.
Then in exasperation I did it from towel dried hair. Half heat, then full then cool shot, per curl. And now they last! So it's worth experimenting.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2022 21:07

I bought a Dyson hairdryer (QVC , has excelent retuns policy , got it on 4xEasy-Pay instalments and free P&P at the time )

It is very light , very quiet and very quick. I have shoulderlength fragile hair (going grey and raaged by menopause and ill heath this year )
Decided to take a chance as (apart from the QVC guarantee ) my DD has very thick long hair , she uses it more than I do .

I love the hook shaped smoothing tool.
But I cannot fathom if it is all meant to fit in the box or not ? I cannot make it fit .

pocketvenuss · 26/12/2022 21:18

I like the hairdryer. The air wrap I gave to my teen dd as it really wasn't great. You have good kit already. I don't think the Dyson will be worth it. There are many other things I'd spend the voucher on

fiorentina · 26/12/2022 21:53

I have both, would definitely buy the hairdryer again. The airwrap I like but I think depends more on your own hair and how often you’d use it.
