Botox/fillers question

sfagan2022 · 21/12/2022 13:39

I'm tempted to get botox/fillers for a bit of a boost. I've got a friend who recently qualified in administering botox and fillers but has no medical background. She claims to be trained in facial anatomy and knows what to do should a reaction happen. I'd prefer to go to someone with medical experience but feel bad not supporting my friend. Any advice?

Fuck no! Absolutely do not let anyone inject your face unless they're trained, qualified and have experience.

You don't want to be the Guinea pig, trust me.

sfagan2022 · 21/12/2022 13:45

She has been on a training course and got certificates.

I could run my own training course and print a certificate, would you trust me? I'd hope not.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 21/12/2022 13:54

Please do not do this.
Use a medical doctor, a dermatologist, not your pal.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/12/2022 13:57

No no no no no Absolutely not.

I go somewhere where the practitioners have medical backgrounds ( mine is a dentist as well) and I trust her implicitly. Been going for 4 years, never had a problem.

It's your face. Any mistakes are very visible and can't be reversed until they wear off.

cjh1969 · 21/12/2022 13:57

I have botox from time to time and will only ever see a doctor. Where are you based? I can recommend a good one in Essex and Taunton.

Delatron · 21/12/2022 14:58

Good god - no. I would only ever see a very experienced doctor.

Botox is actually very tricky to get right. You need a recommendation. Don’t go to your friend.

hobbledyhoy · 21/12/2022 15:00

Absolutely not.

This is the stuff nightmares and huge regrets are made of.

See a specialist if you want it done. These certificates are worthless there is very little of any regulation in that industry.

At the very least go to a nurse

user1471508872 · 21/12/2022 15:08

I use a friend for my Botox and filler, she doesn’t have any medical qualifications (or not that I am aware of anyway)

She had been doing it for a while before I went to her so I had seen lots of her work and heard lots of reviews. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be a Guinea pig though!
I had also had Botox and fillers before so knew what I was looking for and knew all the right questions to ask her before I went ahead.

mistermagpie · 21/12/2022 15:27

Nope, stay away. Not only is she not medically trained and qualified, she also has no experience.

I get Botox by a dentist. Dentists tend to be more reliable even than Drs because they study the facial nerves and muscles more extensively than, say, your average GP.

If botox and fillers go wrong your face could be affected for months. It's not worth the risk.

TheRedLip · 21/12/2022 18:28

Not a chance I'd let anyone inject anything into my face without at least five years of medical school behind them.

middleofthelittle · 21/12/2022 18:36

sfagan2022 · 21/12/2022 13:45

She has been on a training course and got certificates.

You can get these in a few days in a hotel setting or over zoom.

Do not do this.

Would you go to someone who did a course and has certificates for a tooth out instead of a dentist?

sageandrosemary · 21/12/2022 19:19

Absolutely not. Only a very experienced doctor or dentist.

Expect to pay a lot but it's worth every penny (I recently learnt that the hard way).

Buttonmoon45 · 21/12/2022 19:35

Definitely avoid, it can be very dangerous if injected into the wrong place. The doctor I use is an eye surgeon so I feel quite safe, I’d be too scared if they didn’t have a medical background.

AnotherCountryMummy · 21/12/2022 19:39

One million percent no. Your face isn't worth the risk and imagine what it could do to your friendship if it didn't go to plan...

CheeseyOnionPie · 21/12/2022 19:41

Do not let anyone that doesn’t have a proper medical qualification touch you with fillers or Botox. The course and certificate she has are nothing. The anatomy of the face is so nuanced that only someone properly trained (Dentist, Dental Surgeon, Doctor, plastic surgeon) should be allowed to administer. Even then, they need to be experienced as well.

Don’t risk it.

MaraScottie · 21/12/2022 19:47

Fillers are lethal and even more so in the hands of someone not medically trained and with zero experience. You could get necrosis and literally lose parts of your face.

So much no.

Scrumbleton · 21/12/2022 21:04

Nonono!
I have Botox from a doctor who is a well known expert - looks so natural

NoelNoNoel · 21/12/2022 22:56

No no no no

AgathaX · 22/12/2022 09:22

Absolutely no! Even if she had just had really extensive training (she won't have), she has no experience whatsoever.

Look for someone medically qualified, trained and with at least several years of experience, and preferably experience of working somewhere where standards are high and ongoing training is essential.

Madamecastafiore · 22/12/2022 09:28

No don't do it. You have to be a registered clinician to be able to buy Botox and fillers.

Botox/fillers question
IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 22/12/2022 09:31

DON'T. I had fillers for Marionette lines, just over a year ago. Less than 2 weeks later, the area was WHITE. The bloke (he was a Pharmacist, had all the certificates on the wall, the portfolio of photographs) had injected too much at once and it caused the skin the split - he denied it, said that it was merely "the filler showing through the skin" and that he could inject it again to dissolve the filler. I declined! Now, I'm left with not only the original Marionette lines, but white scarring which I have to try to disguise with make-up

Notonyournellykelly · 22/12/2022 09:36

Of course you shouldn't use your mate with no medical background. Look up botched Botox pics if you need inspiration not to use her!

I've had Botox just the once. I also did it for a boost, but I found the results quite meh. It took away my wrinkles (I have fine lines on my forehead), but it didn't transform my face or anything. I think my expectations were too high though. I really thought I'd look generally better and fresher, but I just looked like me without the wrinkles. I've had bigger boosts with a new haircut or maybe eyebrows being done.

I'm not ruling out having it done again though, but I'll manage my expectations a bit (and use someone with a medical background)
