Finding the elusive perfect jeans

Anyone care to suggest brands or styles which might work best? I’m looking to slowly curate my wardrobe into a better fitting, pared down version of my current one and jeans are top of the list
Im 5 foot 4 and a size 10. Mid 50s. Have bought standard m and s types in size 10s for years and they fit ok initially but once the stretch kicks in, they are too baggy. Should I be buying them uncomfortably tight in a size down to fix this or are they just the wrong ones? They also gape in the waist as I have a curvy butt and upper legs but straight hips and not much definition in my waist🙄

there are a million options out there and I’m very much a knowledge vacuum when it comes to style. Any pointers on where to start?

What shape/style are you after? What shoes will you wear with them?

I like Gap jeans. I find they come up quite big, so I would go for an 8 if I were you.

I have gigantic hips and skinny thighs (which is a weird combination I know). I've ordered some m&s magic jeans as I'm told they stretch over the hip area but do not gape on the waist. What they do on my thighs remains to be seen

Style-wise, I find bootcut balance out my hips and tummy (I do have a tummy as well as the aforementioned giant hips #blessed 😂)

I also like straight cut and I size up in those so they're kind of a boyfriend look

Style wise I’m going to buy a couple of options. A bootcut, a straight and maybe a skinny to wear with long boots. I’m more trying to find that perfect upper fit…..one which doesn’t gape at the waist and hips and isn’t simply held(sort of) in place by hugging my bigger bum and thighs!

We are all different shapes, so all have different perfect jeans.

I might not be too far off your shape but I am tall.

Wranglers are better than Levi, by the time I can get my thighs and arse through the zip/waist Levi are too big.

Diesel and Replay can be good for big strong thighs and round bum. But they both have a couple of different cuts and without trying them on, you don't know.

M&S are not too bad. H&M can be fine.

Great Plains fit me but I often have to size down as the are rather vain about sizing.

Sometimes I get men's jeans and get a seamstress to put darts in the waist, about a tenner. And you get better pockets.

The best bet is to put on sensible knickers and easily removeable shoe, head to the nearest town and try on everything. Try every price range - you can always hunt EBay later.

Skin is slightly acid and degrades elastane. 3% is probably enough. Super stretch jeans are just a lazy way of trying to get a one size fits all jean.

You could try pre loved in charity shops as that way they are, in theory, well worn and hopefully wouldn’t stretch etc and save you some money to boot!

I am currently wearing jeans from Community Clothing, straight leg. I find they bag far less than most jeans I've bought in recent years and don't assume you to be huge of hip if waist is out of proportion, as I find many jeans that fit on the waist are huge on the hips /legs. I also have a vintage style pair from Primark, high waist, straight leg and been surprised by how nice they are to wear too. I find jeans hard to buy and it took a great deal of trying on numerous brands to find a couple of pairs that fit. It may be worth trying men's jeans too.

I find Not Your Daughters jeans to be a fabulous fit for me, they hug the curves and don't gape at the waist, really hold you in too. They recommend to size down in these to get the full effect. I have a few pairs and they have lasted years. Super comfy and soft and they don't go baggy.
