fuzzy hair - nothing works!

Seriously. It's all a giant con.
I have healthy yet fuzzy hair, quite wavy, doesn't hold a curl.

Tried:
Curly girl, just no.
Kerastase, no difference, in fact some, even up to £40 made it worse.
Aussie - nope.
Liz Earle - nice smell no change.
Keratin - drier, and it isn't generally dry!
Basic stuff from supermarket - no change. Certainly no worse!
Babyliss big hair - more frizz.
Straighteners, both cloud9 and GHD - snaps, dries, cripples.
Blow drying - poof, kinks, fuzz.
Tying back in a pony - snaps and creates breakage.
Wearing loose - fuzz.

Anyone else like this? Fed up of spending as there is no solution? I am tempted to embrace my mad hair and wait until society reels back into adoring it, lol.
It will happen!
Do we even need a solution? Why do we believe that our hair is even bad?

This is what my hair is like. It took ages for me to work out what the issue was.
Protein made it crispy and I never felt like it was dry so stayed clear of products with oil because I was worried it would go limp with it being fine.
I got a silk pillow case, went back to using silicone and sulfate shampoo and conditioner and I use an argon oil smoothed over the top.
I do an oil treatment once a week.

My frizz has totally disappeared.

Great username!

I know! Such a nightmare. I am in my 30s now. Took me bloody decades to work it out. I pretty much do exactly what you do. My hair was perfect with that method.

Interestingly there’s been a bit of a revival on the curl subs on Reddit against CGM. All the low porosity gals have finally got together and decided to rally against the cult like downvoting of sulphate/silicone methods and some interesting chat over there about products.

Annoyingly I am post partum now and it’s sent everything out of kilter. Trying to get the balance back but keep accidentally going one way or the other. When I am doing a treatment it’s 50:50 whether it’s going to go forward or backwards as I really struggle to know is it moisture or do I need to do a really brief protein.

Have decided today after writing this to go back to square one and just bought the sulfate wash from Ordinary to try.

Have also asked for a restock of my preslip curl smith wash which I had run out of for Christmas so hopefully dp has obliged.

Wish me luck 🥰

I live in a hard water area
When I showered at a friends with a water softener my curls were consistently beautiful with no work
I also use my air wrap Dyson on day 3 or 4
It tames the frizz especially after I have been caught in the rain in minutes
It is a game changer
I needed a few days of practice but it changes me from mad women hair to very soft curls
it is dear
Get it on QVC as long money back guarantee if you decide to try

Bimbleberries · 21/12/2022 11:23

Do you use it on dry hair?
I don't have a Dyson now but have a babyliss big hair, wonder if that would do similar on day2/3/4

My big hair just doesn't do the job. It's fine for the ends but leaves the top really frizzy

Happyhome21 · 21/12/2022 20:12

I had a baby bliss big hair and it seemed to dry my hair out
Whereas my hairdresser says the Dyson leaves it in much better condition

I've similar hair OP and tried so many products. I've just given up.

For anyone trying Keratin - please don't! The first one 'might' be ok depending on who does it but the second one will ruin your hair forever. My thick, full hair, became a lank, lifeless, straight, thin head of hair. It looked like I was so unhealthy and ill. Just awful. I ended up losing a lot of hair and my hair has never recovered.

Do you know which brand of keratin treatment did this to your hair?

KangarooKenny · 22/12/2022 06:26

Only Curls and a silk pillowcase.

Mercurial123 · 22/12/2022 12:18

L'Oréal Steampod 3 and K18 Hair Mask keep my frizzy, curly hair manageable.

I'd second that about the keratin straight treatments and the damage. I said something similar in my post.

TwinklyShit · 22/12/2022 21:14

There’s currently a class action lawsuit in the States alleging Keratin treatments caused uterine cancers. There’s no way I would want this done until there’s some definitive clinical guidance on the risk.

I think years of low level anaemia coinciding with peri meno caused my frizz.

I have had some success getting it looking sleeker by combing through a 50p sized dab of Herbal Essences silicon free conditioner in my mid-length hair after washing and towel drying but not conditioning (so basically like a leave-in cream conditioner, but it’s just a normal conditioner) and then air drying.

My other somewhat more indulgent solution is a salon blow dry.

Bimbleberries · 22/12/2022 21:33

I think there are some new formaldehyde free treatments, like the kerasilk, which is why I'm interested to know the brands people used who didn't get on with keratin

TigerDroveAgain · 22/12/2022 21:54

I've similar hair and have been using Merwave products with some success. It does depend how you want your hair to look ofc

My hair has been horrendously fuzzy since moving from a soft to hard water area. I only figured this out when we went to Cornwall on holiday and all
of us had smooth hair for a week. Anyway I have been using Living Proof detox shampoo which has actually helped somewhat, and am looking into any hard water filters for the shower.

You're right! I just compared the difference using the same products in hard v. soft water and it's amazing. I'd never noticed before!

I'm afraid troll hair is a recognised part of menopause.

I was afraid of that 😭
I've noticed my colleagues (around the same age) are reporting similar

Athenen0ctua · 03/01/2023 07:43

I had mine cut off at the barber, about 18 months ago then 6 weekly since. All these treatments sound like my worst nightmare. I just use any shampoo and conditioner from lidl now, twice a week.

EvelynBeatrice · 03/01/2023 12:53

I am evangelical about the L'Oreal steampod straighteners. Came across the professional model at hairdresser in Cyprus on holiday years ago and bought the over the counter model on my return home. Cypriot hairdresser explained that GHDs and the like are useless in the heat and humidity. Need steam. Also less damaging to already dry hair.
Find it leaves even daughter's extremely frizzy hair smooth for days.

Rina66 · 03/01/2023 17:53

I really want to try the Steampod @EvelynBeatrice, so what you say is really interesting, because I can't get my head around how in normal circumstances steam just causes my hair to frizz, yet these are supposed to do the opposite and I've seen a few instagrammers that I trust use them and really recommend them.

I got a really good hair oil in the Liberty advent calendar, Davines Oi Oil, I've been seriously impressed with how smooth but not oily it's keeping my hair and it's been very rainy and damp, so I think I'll be buying it when my 50ml runs out. It also smells lovely and can be used on wet or dry hair - for context I've used Moroccan oil, GHD oil, Olaplex oil, Kerastase, Percy & Reed oil, I think this stuff is much better. Here's the details if anyone wants to read about it...

Figroll16 · 03/01/2023 18:17

Have you tried a silk hair wrap OP? My hair is naturally wavy so tends towards frizz regardless of styling product and the wrap definitely has helped smooth it

EvelynBeatrice · 03/01/2023 19:46

I don't know why the steam works but it does. My daughter also inherited my Dyson hairdryer - a ridiculously expensive (and unasked for) present which I was gutted to discover made my hair look greasy for some reason. However my daughter was able to half the time usually spent blow drying her frizzy hair using it - it's great for her.
She spends all her pocket money on good hair stuff too and I think an Oleo oil.

Cherry8809 · 03/01/2023 20:21

Nexxus Therappe shampoo and Humectress conditioner, finished with Chi Silk Infusion before drying. Literally my holy grail combination.

Invest in a silk pillowcase, and a good quality brush. I love Boar bristles.
