I want to try an expensive shampoo and conditioner

I have awful hair, far too much of it, curly / wavy / straight in different patches. Doesn't respond well to the Curly Girl method, or anything else really.
I'm wondering if I should just throw money at it and try a higher end range, I've looked at Kerastase Discipline, or Redken Frizz Dismiss maybe. It's a lot more than I'd usually spend, would you recommend either? Or something else? I am so, so fed up of my unruly hair.

Depends what your hair needs. I personally love redken all soft as my hair needs a lot of moisture. I also love philip Kingsley Elasticizer for a pre-wash treatment that makes my hair soo soft

I found the red Ken frizz dismiss very heavy for my hair (wavy). It has protein in which doesn’t suit my hair. The other redken range seem to be good. It’s funny I have spent so much money on hair products and still haven’t found my holy grail. I’m not sure whether spending more is actually worth it.

mintdaisy · 18/12/2022 20:52

I've started using Redken all soft and very impressed with how much softer and more manageable it has made my frizzy, dry hair.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 18/12/2022 20:55

I'd recommend an Only Curls starter pack to give it a go. I'm a convert to them now. It's been 4 months and my hair is in such good condition.

Kerastase is great. I also love Ouai. I have extremely thick wavy hair so do find expensive products help. I also recommend aveda, R+Co and coco and eve. George northwood’s moisturising cream is also great for leaving in your hair all day.

DenholmElliot11 · 18/12/2022 21:01

"Russian Amber" by Philip B is amazing

myfatisgettingfatter · 18/12/2022 21:01

Paul Mitchell smoothing shampoo and conditioner - then Skinny Serum

WhereAreWeNow · 18/12/2022 21:01

If I was paying for an expensive conditioner (I honestly don't think it's worth forking out on shampoo), I would get Living Proof Perfect Hair Day. You can get travel sizes which are still expensive but they allow you to try before you commit to buying full sized. The 5 in-1 styling cream is great too.

Fentylipgloss · 18/12/2022 21:03

Ouai shampoo and conditioner is lovely.

CorporateBull · 18/12/2022 21:06

I’ve had a lovely experience with Living Proof recently too. The pink curl stuff. I found the conditioner and curl oil in TK Maxx - still £20 for the conditioner but £10
less than full price.

SleekMamma · 18/12/2022 21:11

Pureology is excellent. Lasts for ages as it's so concentrated. No SLS in it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/12/2022 21:18

I use Kerastase Bain Satin for thick curly hair and Masquintense as a conditioner.

don’t bother with Bumble and Bumble. Overpriced rubbish, may as well be supermarket shampoo .

Pashazade · 18/12/2022 21:22

Another vote for the Only Curls stuff it's excellent.

honeyfox · 18/12/2022 21:23

Pureology is great but for your type of hair I'd recommend Kevin Murphy products.

KangarooKenny · 18/12/2022 21:25

Only Curls is the way to go. Treat yourself to the starter pack and enjoy !

Itsthewhitehat · 18/12/2022 21:27

My adult daughter has similar hair.

She likes Phillip Kingsley and kerastase. Especially the Bain satin (I think) leave in conditioner.

She didn’t like only curls. She wants to try Ouai. I love Ouai but I have a different hair type to her, so can’t recommend if for you hair type.

GerbilsForever24 · 18/12/2022 21:35

Kerastase is great. So is KMS. I also like l'oreal.

Having said all that, while I totally believe that salon quality shampoos are a million times better than the supermarket stuff, you may well need other products to manage your hair.

I'm a huge fan of Innoluxe Elixir as a leave in conditioner too.

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/12/2022 21:37

Kerastase and Redken are outstanding and always reliable (as long as you buy for your hair type).

I didn't get on with Ouai at all. Awful.

Briogeo surprised me and was really good.

I also like Philip Kingsley.

CorporateBull · 18/12/2022 21:46

I’m also wondering whether you’d consider not using shampoo? It’s the single best thing I’ve ever done for my hair. I just use conditioner and it is perfectly clean.

Shuttheblinds · 18/12/2022 23:11

If you want a real treat try Oribe. You can buy it on Space nk. It is amazing, I used to use kerastase but now I cant go back! So expensive but what a difference it makes.

DancingSober · 18/12/2022 23:15

I know you said expensive, but I found the Aveeno shampoo and conditioner genuinely great for my crappy hair. I have quite fine hair but a lot of it, so it's very frizzy and flyaway. I also dye it so it's a dry and damaged

Nat6999 · 18/12/2022 23:16

Kevin Murphy & it's available on Amazon.

Abcdefgh1234 · 19/12/2022 00:01

I tried kerastase, redken, purelogy and olaplex. My favorite is olaplex.

Saurus72 · 19/12/2022 02:32

Davines Oi all in one milk has been a game changer for me, just brilliant for controlling my hair. I use Herbal Essences argan shampoo and conditioner though - a good high/low mix that’s performed me.

QueenZoflora · 21/12/2022 13:32

I always end up going back to the Ouai - works great for my fine, wavy/curly hair. Smells amazing and looks fab on the shower shelf too!
