Boxing Day Outfit - Need to cover tattoos!

My grandmother doesn’t know I have tattoos. I’m an adult woman with a mortgage, a husband, and two DCs. I just cannot be bothered to have the conversation with her. She has many redeeming qualities but she is incredibly judgemental and anti-tattoo and quite frankly it is not worth the drama it would cause.

I have stupidly just gotten a new smallish tattoo on my wrist/forearm. The ones on the inside of my bicep and thigh are fairly easy to dress, but now I need long sleeves as well! I’m rubbish at having sleeves and always push them up so need something tight and not flappy ideally.

I’m trawling ASOS, New Look, H&M etc. but not feeling very inspired. I need something for a size 12 (size 10 everywhere but my hips/arse), not too clingy on the tummy because I’ll be eating to excess, looks party-ish but is still comfortable enough to chase toddlers in, covers me wrists to knees (at least), and is less than £30 and can be ordered before Christmas. There is loads out there but I’m totally at a loss as to what I actually want or like.

Can you cover it with waterproof makeup?

I recently bought some thermal long sleeve t shirts that fit quite tightly down to my wrist. Maybe one of those under a normal dress? Mine’s the M&S heat trch
one but Uniqlo will do similar, or there will prob be similar on Amazon prime.

Can you put a cardigan over something you already have?

Harp1977 · 18/12/2022 18:28

I agree could you try using make up? Or an over large cuff style bracelet

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 18/12/2022 18:29

Wear a bracelet or watch over your long sleeve to make it difficult to push up - that was enough to break the habit for me! (Not allowed to roll up sleeves at work)

Stick a bandage on and say you have a small cut/burn.

So she doesn't know at all? I don't like tattoos and my dch probably think, if I was in your Gran's position, that I would have a right go at you. But I wouldn't, because I wouldn't want to look like a dick, or spoil the day. I know you didn't ask for this, but my advice would be to get someone to tell your Gran in advance that you have them, or tell her yourself, to give her time to get her head round it. Explain that they are an art form and they mean something to you. Then forget it. Wear a cardi. If the sleeve rides up and she notices, she won't be shocked. Life is too short to worry about what other people think.
