Jumper dresses

Hi all!

I really want some nice jumper dresses but can't seem to find anything (probably because I am rubbish at knowing where to look!).

I want something just above the knee but I'm 5'11" with very long legs so things usually advertised as that often come up very short like a mini dress. Heavy/ warm material, not flimsy thin stuff (I get cold). I'm autistic so no scratchy wool etc, it must be soft fabric. But natural fabric ideally. No high/ roll necks etc as I can't stand the feeling of stuff around my neck. Need long sleeves obviously (hate being cold!!). Something reasonably fitted as I'm a size 10 and look like I'm wearing a bin bag in baggy stuff.

So not fussy at all then. 😳🤣

Budget not too limited, can pay £100+ for the right thing.

Any ideas, clever people??

Anything suitable here? Bit over budget though

Also really great!

As an alternative what about some nice merino or bamboo long sleeve thermal tops? Then you could wear any kind of dresses over the top? Might give you a bit more choice of outer if the layer directly next to your skin is warm and soft.

Mince314s · 17/12/2022 13:50

I'd second Celtic and co. Bit pricey but the dresses are generally natural materials and suitable for tall people. They have £20 off with ukxmas20 or 15% off with snow15. I've had a geelong one a few years and it's still going well, I think it's this one: www.celticandco.com/womens/clothing/dresses/super-soft-slouch-dress?colourid=393

I've talked myself in to getting another one 😂

impressivelycunty · 17/12/2022 13:53

Have you tried Cos? They do great jumper dresses and would work for your height.

amiold · 17/12/2022 14:02

I got a couple in matalan for sitting around and I've honestly lived in one of them with tights and my docs. Winter coat over and scarf and it so cosy and comfy and a little bit dressy. I got 20% off too. Think it was £39 for two jumpers and three pairs of tights lol

Is merino ok? I can wear merino and cashmere but struggle with other wools.

There are a few merino Jaeger dresses (available from M&S) but they may be too long or too high necked.

Oooooo I love the Celtic & Co one in charcoal. But it's really unlikely I'd stick to hand washing in cold water with a wool detergent then wrapping in a towel. Maybe it's not for me!

ChangePlease · 17/12/2022 14:10

I could have written this and can vouch for the Celtic & Co slouch linked by PP

HootOwlStrikesAgain · 17/12/2022 14:11

Thanks all. Have ordered 4 to try and can always send a couple back if not right. Really appreciate the help!

I read that as washing machine on a gentle wash wrapped in a pillowcase and mine has been fine for a few years so far. It doesn't need washing as much as natural fibres anyway.

That's one of the ones I ordered so that's good news! Xmas Smile

I'm a lone parent and not bought myself anything in ages so this will be my Christmas present to myself. 🤣

Happy you found something OP. I put my cashmere in the machine on a hand wash setting and then dry naturally and they’re all fine.

Chasingsquirrels · 17/12/2022 14:19

I've looked at the Celtic & Co previously years but not got it die to the price, having looked at the links on this thread I'm very tempted by the blue fair isle one, and a £20 code - but not available in my size 😢

anon2022anon · 17/12/2022 14:40

I was eyeing up this sale bargain yesterday

Nimello · 17/12/2022 14:49

Not my thread, but I am v grateful to those who mentioned Celtic and Co dresses as I've never thought of them, and the necklines look untroublesome!

dreamingofsun · 17/12/2022 15:08

i got some from crew last year in the sale for about £25. and there are some at seasalt i like the look of but i'm not paying full price, so hoping they might be in the sale

They look great don't they!

Hope they turn out to be perfect! You can order Celtic and co from John Lewis & M&S too but I’m not sure if they have different stock. Might be worth checking there too @Chasingsquirrels

crispinglovershighkick · 17/12/2022 19:10

I have this one: www.celticandco.com/womens/clothing/dresses/supersoft-midi-dress

It's very soft and cozy, just below the knee on me and I'm 5' 6", size 10-12. Flattering too, though a medium is very generous and I may get a small if I go for the green version.

Thank you. It seems Celtic&Co are definitely the answer to my question! Thanks everyone for your ideas and help with this.

@HootOwlStrikesAgain which ones did you keep in the end. I've been busy buying jumper dresses myself

Sagittariusrising · 13/01/2023 16:31

Phase Eight do great jumper dresses and there used to be a Phase Eight jumper dress appreciation thread a while ago.

Just recently bought myself a lovely pale blue one for £95 and I'm 5' 7'' and it covers my bum very nicely.

Rina66 · 13/01/2023 16:59

I bought a lovely one from Cos last year, it was a roll neck and had the thumb holes, so looked great with a biker jacket over it.

This is this years version I think...they do a crew neck too

Is it a cowl neck one?

Sagittariusrising · 13/01/2023 20:15

@MistyRock Yes it is! Comes down to mid-thigh on me. Lovely and soft. Really pleased with it.

ficklish · 13/01/2023 20:24

I have the same sensory requirements for clothes and absolutely LOVE this Joanie dress:

So soft! Not scratchy! Great colour, feels fab on.
