Serum for quite thick, fine, frizzy, curly/wavy hair

Yes I know it sounds shit hair. Just be thankful it’s not yours.

My hair is just below my shoulders, it used to be very thick (as in lots of it) but I’m 51, and it’s just quite thick now. It’s dry and frizzy, and the hair itself is fine. It’s naturally curly/wavy. It’s a complete mess.

After shampoo/conditioner I use a serum. My most recent is L’Oréal extraordinary oil, and I like the smell but it doesn’t do much for the frizziness. I’ve been looking at reviews for other similar priced ish products and most reviews say they leave hair looking greasy or sticky. Obviously I don’t want that.

Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably for under a tenner. I’m not expecting miracles, and I wear my hair tied back anyway, but I’d love to look less dandelion clock ish

Im scared of this section of mumsnet. Please don’t be horrible

Sounds like mine....the only thing that makes my hair look half decent is treating it like curly hair tbh.

I don’t do curly girl because any oily or moisturising product weighs it down, but, I do dry and style it like that.

I've got very similar hair to you, by the sound of it, and have found this, along with a diffuser on low heat/speed actually give me curls rather than frizz.

Also this - nice on ends only, and smells divine (but not as good for all over)

If your hair is dry I'd change your shampoo and conditioner. Frizzy hair frizzes because it's dry so when it's humid it 'opens' up to get water in.
Serum works to seal the hair to stop it 'opening' so you'd need a lot of it to counteract the dryness.
I think the OGX range is nice for under a tenner. There is a keratin one or coconut oil.

I have very similar hair to you OP! Have just started using Revlon Uniq One all in one treatment (red bottle). It smells lovely and it definitely helps tame my frizz and detangles.

My hair is the same. I use Aveda curl enhancer on towel dried hair when I get out of the shower and then let it dry. It tames my frizz and I have wavy hair. It is a bit pricey but you only need a small amount so lasts ages

Mine is similar
I can be soft and wavy or like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards when in the rain etc
I use the curly girl method for the first 2 days
Then I use Dyson air wrap for the next 5 days
Wet it with a water spray and style
It is like magic
But it is very expensive and needs a bit of practice
Look at the reviews before you buy

VO5 is great

I use L’Oréal Elvive wonder water. I’ve got lots of fine hair which is also naturally wavy and wild but I use this and straighten it. So far in my serum search this has been the sleekest! I don’t find it greasy at all. It’s also silicone free.
Close second is the frizz killer serum in the same Elvive range.
