Lip filler dissolving

Hi, so I had been getting lip filler for many years (juvederm) and the result was that I ended up with over filled lips and quite a bit of migration above and below my lips. I got them dissolved the other day and intend to get them refilled...but with a lot less product! The problem is the top has gone down great but I seem to have been left with this saggy bit running under my bottom lip. Anyone know of this is maybe just some left over product and getting it dissolved again will get rid of it? Will filling my lips sort it out? Is it just stretched and I'm stuck with it? Any ideas?

I would imagine that it will go, did they say how long it would take once the filler was dissolved. Do you have a photo of your lips with filler.

I think I would speak to them and see what they advise.

@BackInTheDales This is just before getting them dissolved. At this point it had mostly migrated out and into the surrounding tissue so my lip area just looked puffy.
She said it should all be dissolved after 24hrs (which has past now) but also said I may need more than one dose of dissolver as there was quite a build up. I'm just panicking because it looks so saggy and I'm worried I'm stuck with it. I have contacted her but unfortunately she's off the next few days for her wedding x

I'd go to someone else. Make sure they're well qualified and recommended. Not some beauty salon.

Several years? It could have been a number of things. How much and how often were your lips topped up, and using what method? Is this your first dissolve? Either way I think a dissolve and refill was long overdue and that's the problem. It should be a couple of weeks gap at least until they can be refilled.

@krill This is my first dissolve and I had been getting them filled with Juvederm for about 12 years now. 2mls yearly at the start but I've not had anything in since before covid. My body takes a long time to break down juvederm apparently.
The girl I've got dissolving is a registered nurse and very good but i had various other people filling them over the years. I'm hoping another dissolve will get rid of it and I'm not stuck with a saggy bottom lip.

Two mls at once yearly or spread out? That might be the trouble with migration if all at once. I'd have said a dissolve would have been needed much sooner than 12 years, but that's down to the practitioner to advise. It depends on size of lips but I'd have started with 0.7-1.0 ml then added half ml as needed

Have you tried Russian method also, when refilled? That might be something to consider. I like the definition that gives.

It's very early days so fingers crossed it goes back to normal.

Missloveyou · 15/12/2022 15:27

@krill 2mls at once...maybe even more than that at the start come to think of it. I was young and stupid and didn't realise how bad they were starting to look until the migration really started getting noticeable a few years ago. I really should have got them dissolved years ago but I didn't know it was possible to do until my current practitioner told me I could (and should).
Hoping to get back to her next week and try to dissolve this bit (fingers crossed it gets rid of it) and she has advised to wait atleast 2 weeks to refill.
I have seem some people with the Russian method and it looks really good so I am considering that x

How are things now with your lips @Missloveyou?

pocketvenuss · 18/12/2022 15:50

You had a lot of filler put in over the years. Your lip skin and area around your lips have been stretched out. Think morbidly obese person suddenly losing all the weight. They are left with excess skin. You are actually lucky not to have more saggy skin. Your lip lip looks like it's not got any sagginess. This a problem more people are finding now that over inflated lips are not fashionable.

You may find over time some if the slackness self resolves. If you are refilling just make sure you keep it light. If you fill up again you are just exacerbating the problem. You won't want massive lips when you are older and you'll end up with a really baggy problem.

krill · 18/12/2022 15:57

Good luck! Let us know how you get on @Missloveyou

I blame past practitioners for not recommending a dissolve years ago but continuing to fill, and for filling 2mls at once (I don't know if anyone who would do that); a sure way for migration to occur. Hopefully this can be sorted out.

Missloveyou · 19/12/2022 23:44

@HimiJendrix @krill @pocketvenuss
I went back to get more filler removal and it seems to have helped slightly but the sagging is still evident under my bottom lip. I'll be going back in a few weeks to get about 0.5 filler back in, just to give a little volume and shape. So hopefully that will look OK and the saggy area won't be extremely noticeable.
I'm definitely going to keep it light now. No more over inflated lips for me!
