Conch piercing healing experience

Hiya, as the title suggests, what are your experiences? It would be a small round stud with a flat back if I do it. I read somewhere that when you initially have the long bar you can position it so it protrudes into the shell of the year when you sleep. Is that right?
thank you

I love it but but played up a lot (bumps, infections requiring antibiotics) and took ages to heal, over a year. I dont sleep on mine, even now - I use a pillow with a hole to allow me to side sleep. The long post you get at the start is annoying but the piercer will downsize it a month or two after its pierced (can't remember exactly when). I dont think it's advised to push the jewellery in and out, especially when new as it can damage the healing if it doesn't freely move of its own accord. It's all worth it though. Your piercer will advise you on how best to allow it to heal.

My conch was one of my easiest to heal. I had it downsized around 6 weeks. The swelling reduced quite quickly and once it was free moving (before I had it downsized) I always kept it more forward in case I turned over in the night. I think I had it done around 18 months ago and I have been comfortably sleeping on it for a very long time now. Both ears have a lot of piercings though so a travel pillow helps!

Hmm, 50:50 although it’s good to heard that you still love it Pink.

It's my favourite piercing but takes forever to heal and is easy to catch with your hair.
On the plus side you can still sleep on that side, unlike with a helix.

QueenAstrid · 16/12/2022 15:38

I’ve got multiple ear piercings and the conch took the longest out of all of them to heal.

FindingMeno · 16/12/2022 15:38

And, I agree, it shouldn't be pushed in and out because it makes it much easier for bacteria to enter.

Atmywitsend29 · 16/12/2022 15:40

Mine healed really easily, I would push the flat back against the ear for sleeping.

The only thing I'll say is to be extra careful while washing your hair if you have ear/chin length or long hair! It healed easier than my tragus or helix and has always been more comfortable for sleeping.

I have a long 5 stone curved bar in my conch now and I don't even notice it's there!

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 16/12/2022 15:44

I had mine done with a slightly longer bar, it was advised in case of swelling. My Piercer advised after 4 weeks they could check it and change to a shorter bar, which I did.

On the whole it stung for the first evening (had it pierced at around 5pm), bled slightly straight afterwards, but after that it healed really well. The change of bar at 4 weeks stung a bit, but only for minuted afterwards.

I found with the longer bar I caught occasionally, however once changed I've never caught it. It felt healed within a month, but it is advised it can take up to a year, and I went back after 6 months to get another piecing and was advised the conch had fully healed at that point.

I would definitely go for it, mine is one of my favourite piercings (I have helix, lobes, conch, rook and tragus).

Jellycats4life · 16/12/2022 16:08

I have a bunch of ear piercings and by some fluke I didn’t feel a thing with my conch.

It’s really important to get the bar downsized when the swelling subsides, after around 2-4 weeks. The mistake I made was getting pierced at Maria Tash at Liberty and not being arsed to travel all the way back to London to get the jewellery changed.

I’d also recommend not sleeping on it for as long as possible, especially when new. Piercers recommend buying a neck travel pillow and sleeping with your ear over the hole.

Hi all, thank you for the advice. I should have said that this isn’t my first cartilage piercing so I’m well stocked with Neilmed and travel pillows. I also should have been clearer that I’m not planning to slide it back and forward, just to position it that way until it gets downsized in case I roll over and sleep on it. I guess my question should have been… is it easier than a helix in terms of (accidental) sleeping on it?
Re other advice, I have short hair so I’m not worried about it getting caught but I’ll probably have to think about my glasses.

I wear glasses and my arms are prob 5mm away from it, they have never touched or bothered it.

I have two piercings and they healed ok.

I didn't get them at the same time.

The first one healed perfectly, the second did get infected but it's fine now.

I didn't change the bar until 3 months after the piercings were done.

I have two hoops now.

I had no issues sleeping. I guess the bar wasn't long enough.

My industrial piercing took ages to heal! It got infected twice.

Two conch piercings I should say. On the same ear.

It never healed for me and would swell and fill with pus, disgusting. I ended up taking it out after a year. I got a gold Maria Tash to place in it in the hope that I would tolerate the gold, but sadly no.

Jellycats4life · 17/12/2022 22:11

I had a tragus piercing that was a bit like that @Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123. Persevered for nearly two years before giving up on it. I’ll never know why it refused to heal.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 17/12/2022 22:16

@Jellycats4life I wish now I'd stuck it out but when I removed it I had such a relief. Unfortunately there is a big red mark where the piercing was. It wasn't a pretty sight though 🥴

sweetkitty · 17/12/2022 22:26

Mine lasted about 4 days!!!! My ear swelled up like a rugby players, I couldn’t sleep for the pain. It just throbbed constantly I couldn’t stand it and took it out. I’ve got various other cartilage piercings that have been fine but this one was horrendous.

I’m going for a room and tragic in my left ear next

VerifiedBot2351 · 17/12/2022 22:36

Takes a long time to heal. Mine initially healed well, but then I had a ring put in and it went wrong. I had to have a bar put back in and it settled again.

I use a neck pillow, the sort of traveling, on top of my pillow in bed, so that my ear is in the hole of the pillow, if that makes sense. It means there is no pressure on my piercings but I can still sleep on my side.

Ackity · 17/12/2022 22:41

Love mine but has been hell to heal. It’s not quite there yet but settled down. Still sleeping on a travel pillow with it.

get a decent piercist, impact grade internally threaded titanium jewellery only. They should pierce with a long bar then downsize you 6 weeks later.
