Micro blading v powder brows

Beachlovingirl · 13/12/2022 20:49

I am booked on for Thursday and would be interested to hear experiences of either method.

I want micro blading but the consultant said it’s extremely painful and some people don’t get through it. I’ve had lip fillers before and other facial aesthetics (and 3 children with no pain relief) so thought I was good on that but now I’m worried. She said powder brows are less painful.

thanks in advance 😊

I've had my brows done twice it's not painful. They put numbing cream on anyway. You can feel your ties curling when it starts wearing off but they can put more on.

fedupofthiscoldffs · 13/12/2022 20:51

Toes not ties

SparkyBlue · 13/12/2022 20:57

I had my eyebrows micro bladed this year and honest to god they are fab. I've very fair eyebrows and the micro blading made a massive difference to my face. Not painful at all. Not overly comfortable but definitely not what I'd describe as pain.

superplumb · 13/12/2022 21:02

I had micro blading and even with numbing it was the worst pain ever. Also had two kids, lip filler and lip blush. I'd never have it done again.

Newbaby1234 · 13/12/2022 21:08

I've had both, microblading is more painful. Powder brow then to cover up some of the faded microblading though, I prefer the powder brow if your brows are sparse because when microblading fades it does not look good.

aSpanielintheworks · 13/12/2022 21:11

I had powder brows done, I was worried about the pain but it's more an itching sensation, the numbing cream is fab.
When I went back for the top up she advised putting some strokes of blading in my very sparse bits and in terms of pain there was absolutely no difference.

Pelo22 · 13/12/2022 21:13

I had micropigmentation just to throw that one in! Done with a single needle

Jellycats4life · 13/12/2022 22:01

It must depend on the practitioner because I’ve been having my brows microbladed annually for the past five years and, with numbing cream, barely felt more than the occasional light scratch. And I’m not being a hero about it. I’m genuinely surprised people have found it so painful.

astronewt · 13/12/2022 22:08

The worst pain ever, wtf?

It was a pointed scratch. That's it. I'm really happy with mine - my face looks "done" and in focus even when I have no makeup on, but entirely naturally.

Beachlovingirl · 14/12/2022 07:40

Thanks everyone. I think what I’ll do is ask for the part nearest the nose to be the strokes of micro blading and then if I can tolerate that continue with it and if not go to powder brows for the rest - with some strokes over the top.

does anyone want to post photos of their eyebrows? My natural brow shape is also something I don’t much like. Very round and with a high arch. When I do my brows in that shape I feel like it’s a very severe look! What I usually do is make them much flatter and straighter - has anyone gone against their natural shape? Be interested to hear!

Microblading isn't painful, even less so with the numbing cream.

They look different though... with microblading she draws on definite hair strokes. Powder brow is like little dots all over and it looks like if you used eyebrow powder on your brows. My brow artist did a combination of both for me for a more natural effect.

Bizzyone · 14/12/2022 07:53

Love my microblading and just found it like being scratched nothing worse.. actually ended up feeling quitr therapeutic in thr end as was all numb 😄 loved the results too and have gone 2 years without need for a top up, although will be getting one in the new year

PenguinTattoo · 14/12/2022 07:54

I had a combination of powder and microblading. After less than a year the powdered section faded really quick so I am back to using pencil on those areas.

So I'd say microblading all the way. I'm booked in for a top up and will be asking for no powder this time.

RuperttheBearHug · 14/12/2022 08:02

I have microbladed brows. Best thing I’ve done (along with getting my teeth Invasaligned!) It’s a bit scratchy but I dozed off the last time I had mine topped up…

I am a microblading and PMU artist

Personally I don't do much microblading now. I much prefer the results I get from powder / combination brows. I can create realistic hair strokes with a tiny needle - it is far gentler on the skin and lasts longer than microblading.

I would also be very careful with microblading if you have any of your own brows - it can permanently damage the hair follicles

Also - there is only a few skin types that are suitable for microblading. Please feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss in more detail.

Beachlovingirl · 19/12/2022 17:51

Just wanted to post here to update!
so I had the powder brows but in 6 weeks when I go for my top up she is going to add some strokes too the front.

she applied some numbing liquid gel and it worked within minutes and that was all I needed. Didn’t hurt but I did feel it more on the brow bone nearer the nose. I would hardly have know she was doing anything on the tails.

after the procedure she took a while to get it even and I layer down and sat up a fair few times and it’s still not perfect but then my eyebrows are not symmetrical which was the issue in the first place. immediately afterwards the eyebrows were shiny and red.

the next day the colour was very warm and like warm brown and I was very alarmed! I contacted the technician and she said this was normal and to expect that to fade.

even taking all that into account it is so liberating not having to do my eyebrows. Honestly, I was worried people would somehow know or give me funny looks but they haven’t. Thought my parents would think I was mad or looked like I had madly obvious eyebrows but they haven’t even batted an eyelid. Mine were £250 and already it’s the best money I’ve spent in ages. I even put all my various eyebrow products in a make up bag and just don’t need them any more!

Aww I'm so glad you're happy

Yep your artist is correct - the warm tones will cool upon healing so don't worry! Having brows done is such a game changer isn't it ...I bet you look fab x

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 17/04/2023 22:09

@Beachlovingirl How are your brows now?

Beachlovingirl · 18/04/2023 08:20

@PinkCosYouAreSoVery they are pretty good.
so I had 3 goes with the powder brows to make sure the shape was all even and filled in and then had micro blading over the top. If I were to do it again I would only have the micro blading (but 3 sessions of this) because I actually didn’t want the really strong brows look and feel like I have it!

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 18/04/2023 11:55

Thank you for replying!

when you say you had 3 goes, do you mean 3 separate appointments/sessions?

I’ve just booked for next Thursday. Probably will end up with a mix of microblading and powder brows. I’ve got a second follow up appointment booked too. Scared and excited in equal measure!

Beachlovingirl · 18/04/2023 18:28

yes 3 separate appointments for the powder brows and then my last appointment was the micro blading.

the powder brows didn’t really hurt at all - it was a nice feeling. For me, when it got near to the nose side of the brows that’s when it was the most painful and that wasn’t pain it was more like a heat feeling.

micro blading was not painful either it was fine - more than the powder brows but not by much and it was more the scraping noise that was funny rather than any discomfort.

@PinkCosYouAreSoVery that is very exciting! I hope it all goes well 😊
