Clothing Post Abdominal Surgery

Can anyone advise on what they wore post abdominal hysterectomy?

My wound runs vertically from my section scar up to my belly button. I thought i would wear leggings and jumpers/dresses but I am very tender (only 5 days post op) and think my leggings would be too tight around my abdomen but maybe that would be a good thing? Hold it all in!

Loose dresses would be great, but it's freezing so I would still need leggings or tights under those. I only own one pair of track bottoms and I wore those home.

All advice/suggestions most welcome. Thanks

I wore jumpsuits! I have a really lovely warm needlecord one that made me look and feel better if I had to go out.

Getter better soon. X

Dungarees and loose fitting dresses

FayCarew · 13/12/2022 15:04

Loose dungarees like Lucy & Yak.
If you have maternity leggings hanging around, or yoga type pants, they might be more comfortable than tights and leggings.

Could you maybe try maternity leggings?

ItREALLYishimnotyou · 13/12/2022 16:59

You are not going to need anything special for very long. Maybe some leggings. At 5 days I was still resting and for quite a while after. My incision was hip to hip . You have to remember your inside wounds as well. Rest up and take it easy if you can.

Tinkhasflown · 14/12/2022 09:21

Thanks all. Maternity leggings might be a good option under dresses I have. I'm obviously vegging at home still, just pottering about so my pjs are fine.

However, I want to be able to put on something nice for Christmas when I go to my family for dinner.

I definitely can't do jumpsuits or dungarees as I'm short and they looked silly on me pre op.

I'd buy a nice Christmassy jumper dress. On another thread a lady linked one from Next. It was a pewter metallic pleated one. I think it was Nexts own brand. It was lovely.

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 14/12/2022 09:47

Warm jumper dresses and knee length socks? Onesie?

It was this one. Maybe it's too tight but they have plenty others. 😊

MistyRock · 14/12/2022 09:53

Tho one looks super comfy.

I don’t have a vertical cut by I’m 2 1/2 weeks
post op and I’ve been wearing tracksuit bottoms with a soft waist. Mainly a fleecy pair which I got last year in next and some I bought recently from John Lewis. I’ve just started to go out and I’ve worn a knitted dress with tights with a high waist - im tall so always buy the long length and they come up quite high at the waist.

i wore a Knitted skirt at the weekend, but I could definitely feel that round my waist by the end of the day.
Jumpsuits are a really good idea, don’t know why I didn’t think of that.

would the yoga type leggings with the fold over waist of it was soft work under a dress?

hope your recovery very is going well

Incidentally I have that sparkly wrap dress linked above and it is super comfy!

I love that dress. I think it's beautiful.

Hi OP, John Lewis has lots of maternity leggings from brands such as Isabella Oliver and Mamalicious in the sale from about £15 that look like they could be suitable.

Tinkhasflown · 15/12/2022 00:33

Love those jumper dresses thanks. I've order the second one you posted @MistyRock (think the first would be too tight) and ordered maternity leggings for underneath.

Thanks all

I'm glad you liked it. Hopefully you will feel both stylish and comfy. I'm in the middle of a kidney infection and other gastro issues and leggings and jumper dresses are definitely the most comfortable for me atm.
