London Hairdresser for thinning (female) hair ☹️

Hi all, unfortunately peri menopause is ravaging my once thick hair and I now have one very thin patch in particular at the front which I’m finding really upsetting. Can anyone recommend a London (or nearby) hairdresser who is really good at dealing with and hopefully disguising hair loss? I’m not looking at hair systems or anything, just a way to make the best of my own hair- I’m prepared to throw money at it so cost wouldn’t be an issue.

HRT

I had the most beautiful hair
then it thinned terribly in peri
now on HRT and back, if not more, to how it was

A fabulous hairdresser may be able to style and blow dry the hair in such a hair to disguise but then you’ll wash it and back to square one.

Needs to be attacked from within

I suggest Windle in Covent Garden and especially like Mia.

Hi @Goodgrief82 , it’s devastating isn’t it? I never thought I was a vain person but this is hitting me really hard! I am actually starting HRT this week and hoping it will help although not wanted to get my hopes up too high in case it doesn’t - if you don’t mind my asking what kind are you taking and how quickly did you see an improvement?

Second vote for Mia at windle and moodie.

I’m feeling exactly the same at the moment ☹️

It will help

its replacing the hormone that impacts hair amongst many other things

evorol patches

Goodgrief82 · 09/12/2022 14:52

Honestly I think my hair is the best it’s ever been!

Iorderedyouapancake · 09/12/2022 14:54

Sorry to hear you are experiencing the same @Rainallnight ☹️

that sounds amazing goodgrief - I’m starting oestrogel (plus a progesterone I can’t remember the name of), will keep everything crossed for a similar outcome!

If it doesn’t, then that’s odd, because the entire purpose of HRT is hormone Replacement therapy.

and the reason why your hair is thinning is because of the depletion of that hormone

I'm going through a lot of hairless at the moment as well. I went to the hairdresser yesterday completely convinced I should cut it all off.

They persuaded me what would look better and really really does, is a blunt Bob about 2" below chin level.

I have mousey natural hair and they dyed it a very light ashy blonde but with a few more golden/peachy bits over the thinnest parts as it will create an illusion there is more hair than there is.

It looks 100% better.

Hamsterdamn · 09/12/2022 20:46

I dealt with the medical stuff and Mia dealt with my hair. I sorted my iron, vitamins, thyroid and HRT. Mia’s haircuts kept me going.

( Their products are the only hair products that I’ve found have actually ever made a difference. A big difference at that. But this isn’t a sales pitch!)

Third vote for Mia at Windle in Covent Garden. She really listens to what you want and need and then suggests what might suit your hair and your lifestyle. She also cuts for longevity, so my cut goes on looking good as it grows out, which is important as it's an expensive salon. And, last but not least, she's also a very nice and gentle person.

When it comes to products, I recommend Davines - really wonderful gentle formulations.

Good luck!

I went to see Mia at Windle because of the recommendations in this chat. After suffering from bad hair loss at the front of my head alongside my hair looking like a sad dry mop after a year of not cutting. I can confirm Mia certainly is wonderful, such attention to detail and carefully listening to what issues you have so to recommend something that works for you. Whilst there’s a limited amount a hairdresser can do if you suffer from shedding, the haircut has brought my hair back to life. She constantly kept me updated with what she was doing and keeping alignment with what we discussed. On top of that, no hidden fees, a flat rate with all included at £130. Whilst it is dear, I appreciate the lack of sneaky tactics I have seen one too many salons try to add in there without clients knowing. Mia assured me it’s one fee with all products used included.

I’m SO pleased @JustPassingThrough1 .

I feel responsible when making recommendations for something as personal as a haircut, and when it costs so much money. Although on a cost per wear basis it’s very good value for money. But Mia IS an amazing artist and craft person and a lovely person.
I like Windles because I’m not rich or fashionable or a celebrity, but I never feel out of place there. There’s no snobbishness at all.
