It's not is it? Dh says it's not but I am doubting myself a bit.

If I get one I want a nice good quality one to last a good few years but not if would only get 4 weeks wear max.

No! Absolutely not. I don't see it as a Christmas jumper at all.

cobblers123 · 09/12/2022 09:42

I've just bought one and I will be wearing it all through the winter months, I didn't buy it just for Christmas.

In fact, I will probably be wearing it for as long as it lasts, however many winters that will be.

lugeforlife · 09/12/2022 09:43

To be fair just had a quick look in John Lewis and a fair proportion have reindeer's on them!

I shall have a browse today and see if I can find any non reindeer ones.

And thank you both. There is a lovely one I've seen on Brora but maybe too spendy. Also I have to be very careful with fabric so may be a no go in any event but they are pretty!

The ones in JL will be Christmas jumpers with Fair Isle 'inspiration'.

Actual Fair Isle jumpers are suitable whenever the weather is cold enough for a jumper which, in the Fair Isles, will be about 8 months of the year.

Falalalalaaah · 09/12/2022 09:47

Not at all! I would probably wear them in winter but definitely not just for Christmas

(That said, I gave ds a fairisle jumper instead of a Christmas one for his Christmas show at school, but it was extremely cute in my defense)

I’ve just bought a Nordic sweater and it’s lovely and warm - maybe an option for you? I got mine from here:

Lcb123 · 09/12/2022 09:49

No it’s for winter!

cobblers123 · 09/12/2022 09:54

I bought this one from Matalan. It came yesterday and it's lovely and soft and as I bought the large size, I can easily get a t-shirt underneath if I'm really cold. It was a nice price too.

Brora have a special deal on one of their fair isle jumpers today. Definitely not just for Christmas!

SheWoreYellow · 09/12/2022 13:01

Depends on the colour and design I think. Aqua and navy and grey, fine over winter, red reindeers, more Christmassy.

That’s lovely and not just Christmassy.

To me it’s something you wear from late oct to January 1st, anything later and it’s a no no ,

Fairislefandango · 09/12/2022 13:31

Hell no! Fairisle jumpers are wonderful and should be worn whenever it's chilly enough. I like making them, but Imvery slow at it!

How did I not know about the Norwegian Store, @Pinkandpurplehairedlady ?! I live in Cumbria and go to Keswick occasionally and have never heard of it. Looks pricey fabulous!

Kettleblack · 09/12/2022 13:39

Celtic and co.

Afterfire · 09/12/2022 13:44

Depends on what’s on them really. A grey or paler one with generic patterns can be worn anytime. Bright red with snowflakes and reindeers maybe not…!

LaurieFairyCake · 09/12/2022 13:51

The Brora ones are fantastic!

And it's only spendy if you only wear it for Christmas - mines is on year 5!

It's such lovely quality

MincepiesforRudolph · 09/12/2022 13:58

I'm slightly addicted to scandi jumpers where the pattern continues down the arms (prob been influenced by watching too much scandi noir!) I have a fab one from Celtic co that everyone comments on when I wear it and I can't wait for cooler weather to wear them!
I would love to be skilled enough to knit one! I love this one I found on IG.

Much better than the overpriced and frumpy Brora.

speakout · 09/12/2022 17:47

I had never considered Fair Isle jumpers to be christmas clothing- but I am a Scot living in Scotland so they are commonplace, and especially popular with tourists.
They are extremely warm but very scratchy.

Sputfink · 09/12/2022 18:09

I love Fair Isle jumpers! And have several that I start wearing as soon as it get chilly (basically September up north :-)). I taught myself colourwork knitting on a brilliant Letloppi pattern a few years back so I bust that one out as soon as humanly possible in the autumn.

mondaytosunday · 09/12/2022 18:18

Only if it has Christmas symbols on it. It's just a regular jumper otherwise!

Definitely not just for Christmas! But if it’s these ones you’re after www.broraonline.com/uk/wool-fair-isle-yoke-jumper-crocus-slj8216gh8235 then you should know that they’re only on offer until the end of the day today!

Thank you for this, they have the holy grail of v neck fairisle jumpers for those of us with ample bosoms who look frumpy in a high neck

I have one v neck fairisle jumper I picked up in Scotland but I've never been able to find another one I liked

LunaTheCat · 10/12/2022 03:45

HeavyDrops they are gorgeous!
