I've got a big birthday coming up and due to personal circumstances I won't be having the birthday I wanted. I want to treat myself and love watches but the more I look the more options I come up with.

It would be worn everyday if that would change your choice.

I would go for the Rolex but they are difficult to just walk in and buy, you may need to be put on a waiting list.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 06/12/2022 19:20

That is the only thing putting me. I have put feelers out and have a provisional appointment to allow me to be added to the wait list at one of their retailers I just don't know if I want to wait an unspecified amount of time for it.

I would go for Rolex, I think the design is the most elegant, it will go with everything.
Modern Rolexes have a 5 year warranty & a 10 year service interval & will likely hold their value well.
Gents' steel sport models can be hard to get, I'm not sure how much that applies to ladies' models.
Tudor & Omega are excellent brands - Tudor is part of the Rolex group.
Go with your heart but if it was me it'd be Rolex.

monsteronahill · 06/12/2022 19:45

I'd go with the Rolex too - with an oyster perpetual (especially in that sort of colour) you'd probably find it easier to buy than some of the other styles and colours. Although most jewellers will have "display only" on their window displays (the Rolex supply chain is super delayed!) quite often some of them are up for purchase.

Tudor is (to me) a sort of faux Rolex, if you can afford the real deal and like them then I'd go for the Rolex. Omega is great looks wise and a lot of their watches are really well made and stylish, but I'm just a Rolex fan through and through 😂

KirstenBlest · 06/12/2022 20:05

I'd go for the Omega, without doubt.

user1497787065 · 06/12/2022 20:09

Definitely the Rolex.

TotteringByGenteeley · 06/12/2022 20:12

I'd go for the Rolex.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 06/12/2022 20:17

You're all saying what I know deep down but a potential wait list of 6-18months is a real kicker.
I agree with Tudor being a faux Rolex too.
The Omega is timeless but deep down I know I want the Rolex.

what about second hand?

monsteronahill · 06/12/2022 20:21

@fatsinglereadytomingle

If you really want it, then it's worth the wait imo. Otherwise you could get another one, but potentially will always want the Rolex!

I think the wait wouldn't be that long depending on your AD - it can help if it's a jeweller you've got a buying history with, but with the ladies oyster perpetuals they often pop up in windows for sale without a wait if you've got a few around you.

I think it's a lovely choice too - so classic in both style and colour combinations (I have similar so am obviously biased 😂) and it's a lovely present to yourself.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 06/12/2022 20:30

Second hand is an option but if I do go for it I'd honestly rather wait for new.

I do live close to a decent number of retailers so there's plenty to put the feelers out.

@monsteronahill you obviously have impeccable taste! I wanted one for my 30th but couldn't justify it at the time. I can afford it now and birthday coming up along with massive other changes in life it's a kind of now or never.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 06/12/2022 21:43

Definitely a Rolex. It’s worth the wait. I was torn between an Omega and Rolex and the Omega didn’t suit me. Rolex is a much better investment and I think a part of me would have ended up lusting after the Rolex anyway. It’s the only watch you’ll need for the rest of your life - and will serve whoever you pass it onto too.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 06/12/2022 22:08

Tudor is not a Fauxlex. They are great watches in their own right. I own both, had the Rolex first but bought the Tudor on its own merits.

hattie43 · 06/12/2022 22:22

Rolex every time .

Shitfather · 07/12/2022 07:40

Rolex. Have you called other retailers? Duty free shops? Somewhere must have it. Ring all the watch shops in London.

fatsinglereadytomingle · 07/12/2022 15:54

The stars must've aligned, I'm away for the weekend and will be staying right next to a Rolex retailer they face appointment available for the day I'm due to go home and it's on my way home kind of
Hopefully they can get the ball rolling and the waiting impatiently can begin

OP posts:
Greycatclub · 07/12/2022 23:20

Rolex but Tudor are genuinely great.

Waiting time will 100% depend on the popularity of the watch at the time, and also your relationship with the AD. Having no prior spend with them is usually not ideal, but if it’s not one of the most sought after models/specifications you hopefully will get lucky. My most recent was 4 months but we’d also bought a Tudor and 2 wedding rings within the space of a few months.
