What about Nobody's child?

I'm a similar height and shape to you and tend to go for wrap dresses or ones with a knot or twist at the front for waist definition

You can also use the hair bobble trick if a top or dress is too loose - grab and twist a bit of the fabric in front of your waist from the inside, then wrap a hair bobble round the excess

Places with petite ranges are good, or if you want to try a few, use everything 5pounds.com

Buy 10 for approx £60 including postage and you will likely wear 6/7 of them and get a better idea of what suits

Try Next and M&S. I like a similar style and a mini skirt with tighter top tucked in can help with the waist definition too.

Try long sleeve skater dresses - they usually nip in at the waist and are shorter in length. Silkfred has different styles, colours and prints.

Funnily enough I have also recently discovered this style suits me. I have ones from Asda, M & S, Tesco, New Look and Next.

NinjaMeemaw · 03/12/2022 12:24

I did try to post photos of ones I have. I’ll try again.

Green floral on left is Asda. I have a very similar one from Next too.
Top and bottom right are M & S. both recently.
Middle right (red) is Asda George.
Tesco have very similar style at the moment in the sale. I got a leopard pint one and a black and gold coloured one.

NinjaMeemaw · 05/12/2022 14:04

This dress is in Tesco marked down to £8.

I like whistles for these types of dresses, good quality fabrics, not too clingy because they usually lined

SnowyPheasants · 05/12/2022 17:00

I don't know how current dresses became popular, unless it is an emperors new clothes situation, as they are almost all, without a doubt, cheap, thin and garishly ugly.

I felt similarly a while ago, had no luck whatsoever, and this look does suit me. All the dresses on the market, even the truly expensive ones were trendy polyester or viscose shit. No linings, thin, atrociously shaped sleeves, and not a winter fabric in sight.
Cord might be your best bet, but avoid fast fashion shops. Barbour and Brora do a decent dress, occasionally, but still a bit too expensive for what you get. I have noticed Jaeger selling polyester where they used to use silk and the dresses are much the same price! Utterly shameful.

Dresses seem to be created these days for the landfill market only. It's a shame, but not much we can do bar making our own or buying used and getting tailored to fit.
I did have a few decent cord dresses and had them cropped to the appropriate length. Most stores will presume you are clubbing if you want a mini dress. They are dire - going up in price won't really help here.

I would suggest scouring ebay and maybe having stuff altered to suit. I've had a few decent midi dresses in the past that looked much better shortened. Beware brands like Seasalt as the might do heavier fabrics but the colours are very murky and the shapes are definitely blockish.
Long tunics might be a good idea, too, so consider that.

And I'm sorry but most of the samples posted here are a bit thin, lurid and not remotely seasonal. If it doesn't work well with your winter coat, it isn't worth it.

lindyloo57 · 05/12/2022 17:15

I am looking for this style as well, being 5ft2 i think it would suit me, so I ordered 7 dresses to try at home from Newlook but I sent them all back as the materials were all too thin and full of polyester which I am trying to avoid as much as I can, I looked on the next site and found a brand new to me pour moi, they do a lot of lovely underwear but also clothing and lots of mini dresses so worth a look.

Kwackerly · 05/12/2022 17:51

Try joy london, they do some nice mini dresses, thats where most of mine are from and i wear this style. Boden very occasionally have some but £££. Warehouse but it will be polyester- heavier types of fabric though.
