How do you remove facial/upper lip hair?

Gogohenry · 29/11/2022 20:31

Just that. I usually wax but it always breaks me out. Hair lighteners don’t work as the actual hair is still visible. I’ve not revisited this method since I started waxing about 10 years ago and I think technology must have moved on!

Prefer something I can do at home if possible, painless preferable!

I have a facial epilator so old that I don't think the brand exists any more, but it's still 100% effective at removing facial hair after 20+ years. It's similar to this one www.amazon.co.uk/Ma-Devlins-Travel-Compact-Epilator/dp/B0170U4SAA/ref=asc_df_B0170U4SAA/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309883060457&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3318490103198577530&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006553&hvtargid=pla-627082307757&psc=1
Gets every little hair and gives about 3 - 4 weeks hair free.

Zeeza · 29/11/2022 21:33

Professional laser and electrolysis. The only thing that worked for me. Well worth the cash

Glad you posted this today...I understand a Lumea only works on dark hair, my moustache is fair, would a Lumea work if I dyed my moustache a dark colour ?

holierthanthou73 · 29/11/2022 21:39

I just give it a quick going over with a razor in the shower these days

No, because it would still be blonde below the skin. The light pulse heats up dark more than light. So for dark haired people the pulse would heat the hair and damage the root, slowing down future growth. For you with fair hair it probably wouldn't do much at all.

Microblade

KloppsTeeth · 29/11/2022 23:40

I have been tweezing with slanted tweezers and a magnifying mirror, but just bought a Lumea as I’m getting hairier. More and more hairs are coming each day and I am not able to keep up so going to blast them this weekend and see how o get on.

AnnieSnap · 29/11/2022 23:50

I use this. Have done for years now. It’s cheap, easy and very effective

Anniissa · 29/11/2022 23:59

Maybe I’ve just had bad experiences with threading but I found it intensely agonising compared to waxing. I do often end up with raised spots above the Cupid’s bow that can be a bit obvious after waxing but they go down within 24 hours so I usually live with that and get it done over 24 hours before I need to go out if I want it fine for something special. Otherwise I just pluck with tweezers as needed for the dark hairs and live with the rest.

I was doing this for years. Then had IPL and it’s no exaggeration to say it changed my life.

My confidence improved no end now that I no longer had to worry about whether I’d missed a stray hair or had a bristle when I kissed someone.

I advise you to beg, steak or borrow the money for a Lumea or similar - or a course of IPL at a professional place (I used SK:N clinic) and get it gone. I’ve used a home IPL on my armpits and legs and it only took 5/6 goes for the hair to disappear PERMANENTLY. Please do it, you won’t look back.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 30/11/2022 00:04

Beg, steak or borrow FFs!

Steal obviously!

Roussette · 30/11/2022 00:06

I have used everything from home wax kits to threading to dying to cream hair removal. I would never shave because of stubble.

My life is transformed with this
www.amazon.com/Braun-Facespa-Epilator-Epilating-Cleansing/dp/B07T7ZV9N5

It lasts a long time, longer than threading or waxing which never removed to stubborn hairs anyway

BUT it is painful. So worth it though

CrotchetyQuaver · 30/11/2022 00:07

Threading for me, waxing caused me similar problems to you. I find threading nowhere near as painful and I'm not red and sore for hours afterwards either

DuchessDandelion · 30/11/2022 00:10

Threading.

Cheap, quick, effective and if done by a decent beautician it won't mark your skin.

DuchessDandelion · 30/11/2022 00:10

Paracetamol 30m before threading will prevent any pain too, if you're worried.

Oh my!! I'm ordering one of these. I get hairs on my neck and chin always in the same place 😒 I use a trimmer but if epilating lasts longer I'm going to try it!! Hate my beard 😩

stackedcrepemuncher · 30/11/2022 10:02

I use hair lightening cream then trim - always looks great, doesn't grow back thicker.

HelloGooodBye · 30/11/2022 10:07

If you have a compatible skin tone and hair colour to laser then go for it. I have so I shaved and lasered my facial hair with a Lumea. It's life changing!

HelloGooodBye · 30/11/2022 10:10

It's very easy to thread your own chin and moustache. You do like a cat's cradle and quickly get the hang of it. To give you an idea, I'm utterly useless at knitting, crocheting etc but I got the hang of threading within 10 minutes after watching YouTube and looking in the mirror... now threading eyebrows is a different case but you can shape and use little scissors to tidy them yourself.

Nape of neck hair, shave and laser or wax.

CosmopolitanPlease · 30/11/2022 10:10

I use a finishing touch trimmer. I use it every other day to stop regrowth, it doesn't cause stubble but that's because I'm just trimming blonde baby hairs. The big black wiry ones (l get maybe four on my lip and chin) I take enormous pleasure in plucking when they appear!

DramaLlamadodah · 30/11/2022 10:14

I use a no no for facial fuzz and hair removal cream for top lip

Okay has everyone on this thread gone and bought this!? I put it in my basket this morning and now it's out of stock!

If your hairs dark and skin light, Philips lumea.

it’s been a game changer for me (I’m v hairy).

This times a thousand

CointreauVersial · 30/11/2022 13:38

I use a Flawless Finish

Like a tiny electric razor - so easy and quick to whip out and banish the 'tache. Takes seconds every few days. Having said that, I'm not very dark, and don't have facial hair anywhere else.
