What trainers do teenage boys wear?

DS (14) a bit of of nerd (his words) and a bit of a country mouse. He understands that some clothing brands are more fashionable than others, but does not expect them. He appreciates his North Face waterproof though.

He's asked for "cool trainers" for Christmas, but doesn't really know what's cool.

And he has size 13 feet.

Black air force 1s
Vans
Nike air max 270
White air force
Jordan 1
Jordan 4

mumofftwo · 26/11/2022 14:02

Nike air 270s

TinaYouFatLard · 26/11/2022 14:02

DS (14) only ever wears Air Force 1s. You might find it’s beneficial to have such big feet as AF1s will be pretty much sold out in more standard sizes this close to Christmas.

Size 13 men's is the same size as my DH - he has the plain white Nike airforce shoes, then the same shoes with a few different coloured ticks on (blue, green etc). They're all fairly easy to find in size 13 which is always a bonus! Also new balance shoes are really popular at the moment, Jordan's are popular but the larger the size the more strange they look imo.

Nike is a safe bet.

Mine is happy with Karrimor trails. He's totally unimpressed with brands for the sake of it. Don't buy your DS karrimor though.

If he’s “a bit of a nerd” (alternative type?) he may not appreciate the idea of Nike airs as they’re very generic/uniform these days- everyone wears them. Just a thought.

Personally I love a set of Airmax.

In which case something like New Balance might be better, or DC shoe co (not sure if they’re still going) or something of that ilk. Maybe even Merrel.

I think just ask him as it’s easy to get wrong.

Kitcaterpillar · 26/11/2022 14:22

Reebok Club C 85 and anything from Adidas Originals are solid bets if he wants something less ubiquitous than AFs.

Roundandnour · 26/11/2022 14:28

Nike.
fully black here. But his wardrobe is fully black and hates visible logos.

Rainbowcat99 · 26/11/2022 14:28

*Surely a 14 year old would've expect his mum to purchase trainers? My dd is 12 and I wouldn't choose her trainers

I often wonder on these sorts of threads, do you actually read the op or just respond to the title?

I'd say anything Nike is a safe bet round here, if you can afford it then the newer the better.
That said, I have an "uncool" ten year old so am not an expert 😆

itsnotdeep · 26/11/2022 14:34

My 14 yo boy wears Nike AF1 - white this time, but he had black last time.

He spends a lot of time wiping marks off them.

lunar1 · 26/11/2022 14:46

Jordan's, but he has to contribute to the cost!

Galarunner · 26/11/2022 14:46

Check out what his friends wear if he is a bit of a nerd My son would wear vans or converse if he isn't wearing dm boots. He would not be seen dead in Nikes and has a strong dislike of the trackies and trainers uniform of more sporty boys.

Micellar Water is good for cleaning white trainers.

Hate to think what it does to your skin. 😂

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/11/2022 15:41

Nike especially Air Force ones or Vans.
