Slow fashion / ethical fashion when you're plus size

Does anyone else struggle with this? Finding nice clothes for bigger sizes when you're aware of the problems with fast fashion.

I buy a lot secondhand but there isn't as much availability in bigger sizes. I just heard there is a reason for this - bigger sizes get bought secondhand as they have more fabric in them and they can be turned into other things! Makes a lot of sense and I think that's great they are getting reused, but it's hard to get nice things secondhand.

Anyway, just wondered if I'm missing some amazing place where I can find ethically made clothes for size 20ish?

EBay? There's masses of second hand stuff. Not necessarily ethically made, but then if you are buying second hand then you're already being ethical...

I struggle with this too OP, especially as I'd like to shift some weight after this baby. I hardly buy anything new as I don't see the point in wasting money on nice new clothes that potentially (hopefully!) won't fit me this time next year.

I think bigger sizes are rarer second hand as 1- when I find something I like and fits well I keep it for ever! 2- people are getting bigger, there is just less "vintage" age clothing 3- there are fewer outsize people than mainstream size people.

Look at Lucy and Yak though, they go up to a size 32 in some styles. They are more than just dungarees!

Ebay or Vinted? Everything is magically ethical if it's reused.

I'm currently obsessed with Lora Gene. All her clothes are made to order so there is no waste and she has a big focus on clothes that work for multiple seasons and suit any size of body.

Thought clothing size XL is often big enough for size 20-22 https://www.wearethought.com/collections/clothing-sale?gclid=Cj0KCQiAj4ecBhD3ARIsAM4QjF887DdgPu-pxB15Jx4m7mhg9OOt4QhTFhUq8rsqMYRa7ynZOL3-zoaAuuQEALww_wcB thought]

I love Isolated Heroes and Donald Stanley, especially for going out clothes. Aesthetic Laundry for joggers, jumpers etc.
Hand made in the UK, so not as cheap as Primark but much more beautiful.

Thanks for all of these. I already get a lot from Vinted. I don't love eBay these days as I've had a few issues there.

I didn't know that Thought went up to those sizes and @GetOffTheRoof , I hadn't heard of either of those brands so I will definitely check them out.

@cortisolqueen True - Thought is very generously sized.

I was wearing size 18 there when I v definitely was kidding myself that I was a size 18.

NoCoatAndFurKnickers · 26/11/2022 11:01

I love Lucy and Yak and have some dungarees from there and a boilersuit, but also some basic t-shirts and casual trousers which are very comfy and look quite nice. I don't go for the crazy prints really, but love the company.

That's interesting re Thought. I do wear size 18s in some shops (Oliver Bonas and sometimes ASOS and Next), so maybe I could size down there
