"Resort casual" - for work, totally lost

Heading to Florida next week for a conference and thought nothing of what to wear as I'll pack usual suits and office wear. BUT apparently the dress code is strict and it's resort casual. What does this even mean?! It can't be bikinis and sundresses surely as it's still a professional event.

Any suggestions for how to be resort casual whilst also attempting to come across as a seasoned professional? It's in finance so usual expectation for these things is full on formal. Also, I'm on stage doing a keynote so do need to look like I know what I'm talking about

Florida as a whole is "resort casual". They probably just want you to be smart and comfortable. You won't need a winter coat and it will be hot by British standards during the day unless you're in the north. Central Florida will be 28 ish in the day. Linen trousers, dresses, smart shorts, nice sandals. Do not wander around in a bikini and sarong.

Thank you for the link. I guess I was hoping for some thoughts on resort casual for work, if it was a holiday or a regular work trip I'd just pack my usual stuff. It's the mash up that's got me stumped. I feel like most of my wardrobe is either work stuff or leggings and hoodies with not much in between!

Thank you @PrincessPoodle . Maybe I'm overthinking it, I usually dress formally as a senior exec. Definitely won't do shorts, if nothing else because my legs haven't seen the sun in months

Honestly whatever your wore to work during to heat wave will be fine.

And also everything will be air conditioned anyway, so even if you just wear what you feel comfortable in normally, no one will blink twice.

I've done many a conference in Florida - Chinos / linen trews and plain tshirts / sleeveless tops or cotton blouses and smart sanders / wedges worked well.

Too tip - lightweight cardigans for the air con in the conference rooms - can get chilly

I would look at smart summer dresses, loads on next clearance.
Smart leather or wedge sandals.

Agree with this - I also work in finance and at resort conferences dress much more casually.

Good tip on the aircon, it's usually like an ice box in the US. And thinking about it, if I swap jacket for cardigan some of my work dresses will seem more casual and might work

I think this is my favourite type of clothing

Cullotes and t shirt
Skirt and t shirt
Shirt Dress
Black and tan sandals

Plain is smarter and maybe more chic. I have some cropped wide leg linen navy trouser (I call them culottes) and wear them with a plain T-shirt.

A jacket for smart ness. Add some print to make it more casual.

Pedicure and manicure and maybe a spray tan on legs!!
