Vintage / 2nd hand jewellery?

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting my mum some jewellery for her 70th. Unfortunately I don't have a huge budget. Can I get better value if I go for second hand? And does anyone have suggestions as to where to look?

Lovely idea! Second-hand is cheaper than new. What's your budget? What sort of jewellery does she like?

Many jewellers sell vintage fine jewellery. I've bought a few pieces off eBay. Antique shops another place to go searching.

What a lovely idea

I have bought some nice pieces from www.susancaplan.co.uk

Daisy's Vintage jewellery on Facebook or Instagram is a good place to look - vintage could mean 200 years old or 40 years old so there's a mix of styles. She lists more affordable pieces on Fridays.

I can probably go to about £250 but I'd much, much rather keep it below £200.
She likes sapphires and yellow gold, definitely not white gold or silver.

I'm worried about eBay - how would I know if it's genuine?!

Read the reviews, choose a shop seller, examine the pictures. Were you looking for a ring, earrings, bracelet, or necklace?

justasking111 · 25/11/2022 18:50

Nope it won't let me transfer UK only

@SirSamVimesCityWatch if you have any independent jewellers near you would be worth a look, I have a couple near me that sell vintage secondhand jewellery & have had some really nice pieces, including diamond stud earrings/eternity ring & a beautiful thirties gold watch.

Thank you, @justasking111 , I've filtered to UK only at my end. Some of those are gorgeous!

Definitely not earrings (ears not pierced). Ring is a definite possibility. Probably not necklace as she bought herself a very nice necklace a couple of years ago. Bracelet is also possible - she doesn't wear bracelets usually but this would be a dressing up & going out piece of jewellery, not for every day wear, so I don't think that would be a big issue.

I can only wear clip on earrings and I wouldn’t know what to choose from the Susan Caplin link. Each and every pair is beautiful and I’m so grateful to Sunshine for posting.

I bought gorgeous chandelier clip on earrings from Susan Caplan a couple of months ago. They give full descriptions of each piece including lengths of bracelets and the metal eg 22carat gold, gold plate, Swarovski jewels etc. I was looking today at the website and found quite a few bracelets I'd love to own OP.

Sorry I'm repeating myself😜
