Anyone switch to organic oil based skincare from potent actives?

And if so, what results did you get?

I have fairly well controlled skin but am ageing (50 so fine lines/sagging). I use a fairly hardcore regime (ascorbic acid/lactic acid/tretinoin/spf 50) and my skin seems to be somewhat oily but then flaky and dry patches/clumps in places (especially around nose)
I keep reading reviews of natural organic oils and balms where reviewers talk about their skin resembling a rose - all plump and soft and dewy. So, thinking about changing my regime but would be interested if anyone has made this switch and what kind of changes you saw.

Not sure if it's what you're thinking of, but I use an oil based cleanser. I massage it gently into my skin then add a splash of water which turns it a milky colour, and then rinse off. My favourite was discontinued and it has taken me a while to find another that I like, but I love that my skin doesn't feel tight after washing. I think my skin looks pretty good considering I'm in my early 50s.

Thanks. Yes, I already use an oil based cleanser as my first cleanse - but then follow it up with some pretty hardcore actives.
I suppose I’m wondering if I’m stressing my skin out with all the actives and if it would benefit more from some TLC oils.

Unfortunately all the data for efficacy for skin ageing lies in tretinoin/vitC/SPF so I could be taking a gamble switching.
Someone on here this week mentioned Angela Langsford skincare - the site looks amazing and all the reviews are gushing about the results from it. I’m waiting on some samples. Maybe I could do a hybrid of actives and more natural skincare. Anyone do this?

I don't think any "natural skincare" is evidence based.

I think it's complex... You have to play around to figure out what works for you. For example the only active I use is Tret - I don't exfoliate at all. I use vaseline over my moisturiser at night as an "oil" and this works really well for me.

Rosehip oil can be nice but you need the hydrating layers underneath such as a good Moistusier

I think we are all over-using additives .. there is a lot to be said for preserving the skins barrier function.. balms are great for that.

No.
I did the opposite.
Was all about the essential oils etc in the past- and some of them do have excellent skincare helping properties.
Rosehip for the FIRST signs of ageing (it's not the turn-back-time cure all that Trilogy et Al would have you think)
Frankincense is a good anti-ageing oil (there's a reason it was used in embalming by the Egyptians)
Rose etc.

But they're "just" hydrating oils that at most will plump out your fine lines for a bit.

I still like to use a facial oil when my skin is particularly dry.

But the only ingredients that will actually, really reduce (to a degree) signs of ageing, fine lines, age spots etc are: vitamin C and vitamin A. And surgery.

I won't be having the latter so use the former and anything else I like.

You say your skin has oily patches- have you tried a salicylic rather than a lactic?

I've never heard of Angela Langford but a quick Google says she's an ex MasterChef finalist moved into skincare. Lots of positive reviews about how nice the products are.

None of which are from skincare experts or derms, and none of which say anything apart from how "nice" "smells lovely" "gentle" etc the products are. Most are from "yummy mummy" type blogs/websites which seem to be her target market. And most review the entire range so the sceptic in me says Angela is paying the bloggers for their "nice" reviews.

I have actually bought skincare from Angela Langford (I am not a blogger or influencer!). I liked the products I tried.
My favourite by far is the Bloom & Glow oil. I found it cleared up hormonal spots on my chin/jawline really quickly. I have bought this product multiple times.
I am 48, with PCOS (hence the hormonal spots).
