How much do I need to spend on hair straighteners?

My daughter has asked for some 'good' ones - though tbh her only comparison is some she picked up at a car boot sale a few years ago, so I think she might just mean 'ones that work'. I am completely clueless, never having spent more than 30 seconds at a time tending to my hair, but a quick amazon search shows a massive price range, and I've no idea where to start. What's the least I can spend without getting something that'll be rubbish? Any particular recommendations? She's going to be 15, and has long, fairly thick, wavy hair. TIA.

I have always found with hair straighteners you get what you pay for. After a really crap pair as a teen that did nothing to tame my thick crazy hair, I have always had GHDs, mind you the GHDs while still good aren’t what they used to be. My hairdresser uses cloud 9s and says that they are basically the old GHDs, and they make short work of my hair…

If your daughter has thinner straightish hair anyway she might be ok with the cheaper ones, but if it’s thick and wild hair (like mine😂), definitely don’t buy budget hair straighteners.

I had a pair of GHDs that must have lasted nearly 20 years until they gave up the ghost. They were fab. But I believe that these days GHDs are made in China and are much flimsier than the originals.

My GHDs are 15+ years old. I had some cheaper ones before that which broke in 2 years. So really I'd say it very much depends on if you're happy for them to just last a few years, in which case tbh I'd go to somewhere like the boots website and look at the 5* rated ones and read the reviews and pick one of them.

I have Kipozi straighteners from Amazon. They were recommended on here. They're well priced and work really well. Currently on a Black Friday deal of £22. No complaints

I second Kipozi, mine work just as well as my old GHD's

My ghd’s are about 18 years old…and still work the newer ones are shite I sold them on

my cloud 9 are ok ish not worth the money (apparently cloud 9’s and ghd are the same company or the same design)

my ones from Amazon kizpoi something are rubbish didn’t tame my mass of curls weren’t what I expected after the rave reviews

my friend raves about her babyliss ones I’m not sure which ones she has and has completely different hair to me
