Do they really do anything or are they just trendy? Does your head not slide about on them? I'm a fidgety sort! Would love to hear what others think

My MIL bought us some very expensive ones, they stained easily and weren't nice to sleep on, we didn't notice any difference with hair or skin, and I'm very glad i didn't fork out for them, save your money, or try a less expensive one to see how you like it x

I read that they were supposed to stop hair tangling as much when asleep. Nope - they did not.

If you live in a warm client, silk does stay cooler -so a little more comfortable on a hot night.

But having to wash them separately from the sheets is extra work. I Won’t be replacing them.

Silk is cruel. Try satin. You're basically looking for a slippy surface so that your hair doesn't knot or break. I definitely prefer mine over cotton.

Any opinion on silk/satin hair coverings for nighttime? I see Boots sell one that looks like a shower cap. Would it be any good at protecting hair and curls if it's not made from natural fibres?

I got a silk pillowcase last year but it yellowed really quickly and went in the bin before I noticed any advantages

I bought a silk cap from Silke London & I really like it for protecting curls when sleeping.

I’ve had silk pillowcases for years due to curly hair. Yes, they make your hair less tangly, they are cool, and I just Chuck mine in the wash with the sheets but line/radiator dry.

Thank you all for saving me some money. It sounds like these aren't really for me

We moved to satin pillowcases a few months ago and they've made a huge difference to dc hair. No more tears in the morning. I wake up with less creases on my face. I also find it nice and cool to sleep on.

AbreathofFrenchair · 21/11/2022 16:42

I love my pillowcases £25 each off Amazon. Hair less frizzy and when I wake, there's no marks left by the pillow case on my skin like there is worth a cotton.

Your head wont slip everywhere, it's not a balloon!

You can get vegan silk (mine isn't, so not sure of prices of the vegan stuff.) Somehow, they can extract the caterpillar without trashing the fibres.

You can chuck silk in a normal wash. It even survives a hot wash, though I don't actually recommend that (I found out by accident...) But you don't need to separate it, especially if you're washing at 40°.

I love it and have silk sheets and duvet covers, too. It feels lovely against my skin, and I aim to spend a third of each day in bed, so I'm allowed to be extravagant on bedding if I so wish.

I adore my silk pillowcases. My hair has less breakage and my face doesn't look puffy and wrinkled and weird in the morning. I've had some for years and they have kept quite well. I stick them in a delicates wash in a net bag.
