Dog walking boots

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:28

I have bought a dog.

Long walks in Hunters (I know MN scorns them, but I've had them years and they're normally ace for standing on the touch line etc) are killing my heels.

Walking boots are needed. We have good history with Karrimor, but are they waterproof enough in wet grass?

Other suggestions welcome. Have £50 to spend on Black Fridays bargs.

Muck boots are a game changer. They are over your budget though but not sure if they do Black Friday deals. Or check out Vinted.

Picoloangel · 20/11/2022 20:39

I walk my dog every day for hours. After several v expensive mistakes I landed on Decathlon own brand walking boots and shoes. They are waterproof and my notoriously blister prone feet were fine. If they start letting a bit of moisture in I just treat them with Nikwax and they are fine.

hugoagogo · 20/11/2022 20:42

Bit disappointed this isn't a thread about walking boots for dogs.Sad

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:43

Yes, see your point. I'm putting a pin in them for now, they're over budget but you know what they say about buy shit, buy twice so they may be worth the investment.

If it were @hugoagogo it would be marvellous given the amount I've spent on micro fibre towels.

<popping off to trademark the idea though>

Love my blundstones

Loads of my dog walking friends have bought them since I did I should get commission

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:46

Do you size up the Decathlons @Picoloangel looking at Quelcha on there.

Can't help with the boots but bamboo tea towels on the back seat of the car are a game changer for mucky dogs.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:50

Totally love the Blundstones, too spendy though <deletes search history forever>

I wear Blundstones too most days from Nov-March.

When it's really really muddy I do wear walking boots.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:51

See @MontyDonsBlueScarf that's the kind of advice from left field one expects from MN. Thank you!

I have small wide feet and vary between a 3.4 and a 4. I find a 4 fits me fine. One pair I had seemed to be less waterproof at first and I treated them and they were fine but the other pair were waterproof immediately.

fitflopqueen · 20/11/2022 20:54

Decathlon walking boots here too, last ones cost about £60 and comfy for long walks from new. I size up slightly for thick socks.

Picoloangel · 20/11/2022 20:58

@Vitriolinsanity I’ve just checked and I have the waterproof mountain walking boots and shoes. I generally wear slightly thicker socks but otherwise as I said above I wear a 4 which is about my normal size.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 20:58

I have long thin flip blades @Picoloangel

The advice on their page is sound about one's toenails. I wore a v beautiful pair of boots at work last week and was in agony with the claw banging.

Digressing, I had a Morgan body in the 90's that was too short in the body. The pressure on my unders meant I had to unpop and go commando after lunch Blush

I’m prone to claw banging too 😬

Nothing worse than undies on their travels! Morgan was a bigger for being teeny, tiny! I’m digressing too but I always wear them a size bigger. 😉

I love mine too, but they've started letting in water. I now just stick with my Docs, and sorry -Hunters

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 21:34

Decathlons ordered!

Damn you all for the Blundstones. Have sent link to DM for future Xmas gift list. They are right up my alley.

PS Hunters rock!

Smart wool socks are amazing - definitely upgrade any hiking boot.

I've not tried the muckboots mentioned above but did spot some discounted earlier today on the sportspursuit website - you have to sign up for a free account but they are a great outdoorsy brand outlet shop.

Careful you don't develop plantar fasciitis. I did after getting our dog and doing long walks in shit footwear. Took months to sort it out, and was bloody painful. As well as the boots, I'd really recommend getting some decent insoles with heel and arch support.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/11/2022 21:45

Yes@Fuckitydoodah that's my concern. I love walking the hound, he happily goes for miles and I'm finding that great for my mindset.

I've ordered Decathlons half size up, toasty socks and got diverted by a rather smart waterproof coat.

Dogs are more expensive than you think! But I will be on Dragons Den with my patented Dog Walking Boots for sure, then I can get the Blundstones EnvyGrin
