Cardigans and dresses

I've been a sahm for a few years now and will be soon returning to teaching. I was excited about it but am now panicking as my wardrobe is very out of date.

I have brought some plain dresses off Vinted which I really like but I have no idea what cardigans to wear. I have brought some chunky cardigans but they don't seem to match. My style was very much leggings, dress, longline cardigan before I left teaching.

It will be primary school so I want dresses that are comfortable and easy to move in.

So my question is what cardigans would look like I wasn't dragged from the prehistoric ages 😭 or are dresses and cardigans not the done thing in schools any more?

Help!!!!

I believe the key for cardys or jumpers over a dress is the cardy/jumper ending around your waist. If it's longer then nip everything in at the waist with a belt. Without some emphasis that you have a waist then it can all look a bit baggy and frumpy!

There's loads of style tips on Instagram for getting the proportions right. Team with tights and a boot or bare legs and trainers (although maybe not in a school!). All very comfy too!

The teachers in my DS school all seem to wear dresses and cardigans.
As a teacher you need to be careful about your spelling of "bought". There is no R in it, that's a totally different word.

Didn't want to mention the 'brought' but genuinely intrigued as to why people mistake one for the other? are they pronounced the same in some parts of the country?

I don't think so. I think it's just a common mistake, like 'draws' for drawers.
I don't usually mention spelling mistakes but it was twice and a bit concerning for a primary school teacher.

I've been working in secondary for the past year and dresses plus a cardi or a soft jacket are very popular.

I, although no sartorial expert, wear waist length fitted cardis with dresses that have a waist and with longer straight dresses. For tunic dresses above the knee I wear a straight long cardi the same length as the dress amd keep it very plain, so not chunky, belted or with any fussy details. It seems to work for lugging book boxes, making displays and other activities while looking reasonably smart.

Hope you find your comfortable while professional "uniform".

Oh please do get a life @ofwarren .
Good luck with the back to work OP, it’s daunting after being a SAHM and pathetic people picking you up on a spelling mistake in a forum post don’t help in terms of confidence. I’m sure you’ll be excellent and that your cardis will look great. For what it’s worth (not much) my teacher now lecturer style is exactly that and I have decided that they key is non-dowdy colour choices.
