Clinique moisture surge

A580Hojas · 18/11/2022 16:40

I have extremely sensitive skin on my face and very few (like only two or three) moisturisers I can use without causing a flare up.

A friend bought me some Clinique products as a gift and I tried the moisture surge moisturiser today. My face now feels hot and is stinging slightly! Sad

I really thought I'd be alright with Clinique products but it seems not? So disappointed.

I think clinique in general has a reputation of being quite harsh on user's skin, Op. I have used the Aveeno range when my skin went through a period of being really sensitive and it worked really well for me.

brighterthanthemoon · 18/11/2022 17:48

Yeah the clinique redness solution thing made my skin feel like it was burning

Catslovepies · 18/11/2022 18:23

I strongly recommend using the website what's in my jar to check whether a product is going to irritate sensitive skin. They rate clinique moisture surge as high irritancy whatsinmyjar.com/product/clinique-moisture-surge-face-eye

Mine stings with Clinique creams also. I do well with the make up range though (eye shadows, lipsticks, etc) Can you exchange the products that you have not opened/used yet if any?

I have very sensitive skin but MS really is my go to, and I've tried everything

hellosunshineagainxxx · 18/11/2022 19:55

I always react to clinique

LynneBenfield · 18/11/2022 20:06

Clinique is not really that different the other creams out there in terms of potential to irritate sensitive skins. The only thing it does have going for it is no added fragrances/essential oils. It means that their products often don’t smell as luxurious as other pricey brands but fragrance ingredients are hugely common irritants, and so leaving them out of the formulation reduces the risk. It doesn’t eradicate it completely though and people have the potential to be allergic, intolerant or sensitive to pretty much any ingredient (even water), no matter how many times the manufacturer plasters “hypoallergenic”, “dermatologically tested” or “dermatologist approved” on the packaging or marketing.

Not all products are the same. I don't react to Neutrogena or Nivea Sensitive for instance

Sewwhatmrmagpie · 19/11/2022 07:36

I find with clinique that the products are either perfect for my skin or give me a hideous rash. As it happens moisture surge works for me.

The thing about reactions is that it's more about your skin than the product. There is a long list of products that people rave about on here that I couldn't even walk past without having a reaction to!

Clinique test on animals - bin that crap!

I wouldn't bin it if it's already been purchased and works for you. Maybe don't repurchase though. Poor bunnies.

Moisture Surge (as with most "gel" moisturizer) is most suited to less dry and sensitive skin. So, oily, spot prone etc.
Remember back in the day Clinique marketed itself as a pseudo medical range (the assistants in the white lab coats) and was aimed at "problem" skin. "Problem" invariably meaning oily/acne/breakouts. (Their 3 step method was using salicylic acid toners before anyone else for example)
They've moved away from that now and gone more mainstream, but for dry/sensitive they'd not be my first choice, and definitely not any gel moisturizer.
La Roche Posay Toleriane range is good.
PS "Simple" is pretty similar to Clinique- not so simple, and not so good for sensitive/dry as it is for oily/breakout.

PuppyMonkey · 19/11/2022 08:00

I’m usually okay with Clinique stuff but yes I had a terrible reaction to Moisture Surge.

Cleveramazing · 19/11/2022 08:03

I never new clinique animal tested...definitely not getting MS again!

Timeandtune · 19/11/2022 08:07

I wish I had known that moisture surge wasn’t great for dry skins before buying some.
My skin is as dry as the Sahara and I found MS ineffective so I have gone back to Glossier which is fab.

vjg13 · 19/11/2022 08:11

The Altruist range is great for sensitive skin. Not expensive, formulated by a dermatologist and a % of sales go to charity. I use their body lotion dry skin repair cream as hand cream and it has really sorted out my hands.

Just came in to highly recommend this product:

Eucerin AntiREDNESS Soothing Rosacea Care Day Cream for Hypersensitive Skin

My skin is super sensitive and this calms and restores it, whilst being moisturising x

I've tried it before and didn't rate it much, I didn't find it particularly moisturising at all and it stung if I got it too close to my eyes. Everyones skin is so different and I know it seems to be well loved but it did nothing for me and I've tried much better moisturisers at less than half the price.

That’s fine but it’s entirely anecdotal in that it only applies to your skin.

It's not anecdotal. The OP and many other posters have stated that this Clinique cream irritated their skin. I contributed some alternatives that worked for me (i.e. that don't irritate my skin). I did this in order to help others

Hence your statement below is not valid as some of us do find alternatives that do not irritate us

Just came on here to see if anyone else had a reaction using Moisture Surge and see I'm not alone. I've been using it for a few days and have broken out with spots on my face - not a great look on a woman in her 60s! My neck is also red and itchy. I thought I'd treat myself as I usually use Aldi's but think I'll be going back to that. I would love some extra hydration though. So disappointed...
