Wardrobe full to bursting but nothing to wear

Loads of random pieces which have been panic/emergency purchases. I need to try to make some oufits. Budget is limited just now.

Lifestyle:
Live rurally. Recently moved from a casual village to this area where people dress more high end.
WFH, Zoom meetings are a rarity so usually nobody sees me. Rarely go on a proper night out. Do go out for a smartish lunch a couple of times a month. Meet friends at country pub once a month. Go out for a country walk every day. Most of the time my daily walk is the dressiest event of my week. 😳

How do I start to build some outfits?

Tell us a bit more about you… colouring, shape, height, preferences?

What do you currently have?

Budget?

Try everything on and get rid of anything that doesn't fit or make you feel good. It sounds like you can't see the wood for the trees. Then you'll see where there are gaps and what you need.

Plan what you need outfits for - sounds like you need a wardrobe full of things for country walks taking into account different layers for different seasons - max I'd say 4 x bottoms and 8 x tops); two smart tops for work meetings, and a small handful of outfits you'd wear at the smartish lunches (maybe 2 - 4).

Treat what you have like a shop and select outfits for the above.

If you don't have enough clothes that fit to meet these needs then buy specific items to meet them.

Throw everything else away (within reason - keep anything that holds massive sentimental value, swimming cossie, that kind of thing).

(I would love to say this is how I am all the time...)

my advice would be to go through your wardrobe, trying stuff on and anything that you don’t like anymore or really doesn’t go with any of your other clothes and you can’t see yourself wearing again , list it on eBay/ Vinted and sell them. Use the money you make to buy some new pieces that you love. I did this and bought a lot of new (to me) clothes from eBay, lots of nice brands while selling all my old stuff I don’t like anymore. I will say I probably have 80% second hand clothes that are really good quality and brands I wouldn’t normally be able to afford… I totally recommend this to get you out of your clothing rut.
