Maintaining copper hair

I have had my hair dyed a vibrant copper, and I really like it but it has faded so quickly!! I can't afford to go to the salon every 4-6 weeks which I know is what they would recommend.

I am using the John Freida 'radiant red' range, which helps a bit.

Anyone have any other tips or tried shrine drops or glaze type toners?

Think you need a color depositing shampoo, when I went copper I used one but found it really patchy so wouldn't recommend that particular one. The Bleach London stuff always gets recommended, it's easy to find in Boots and is an ok price compared to some.

Also had to change my towels from white to a dark colour Grin Loved having copper hair but now I swim regularly and it just wouldn't work for me sadly.

I have copper/auburn hair and use this along with the conditioner twice a week. It's the best I've found to give it a bit of vibrancy in between hair appointments. Unfortunately doesn't cover up the greys though 😆

I have bright copper dyed hair and the struggle is real! Try the wella colour fresh mask, I find it gives a good boost. I leave it in for 20 mins, but you could leave it longer as it’s not damaging.

Wella Colour Fresh

Wash your hair in cool water, and try to only wash it twice a week to retain the colour. Dry shampoo is your friend. I don’t know about John Frieda but a non sulphate shampoo is great for keeping your colour for as long as possible. I’m a trained hairdresser (not that I work as a hairdresser) and this is what works for me, hope it helps!

Thanks all- some good things to try there!

Try henna and cassia instead. I add them together in a 50/50 mix. Very little fading and you only dye your whole every 6 months. Roots need redoing every month of course but it's very cheap and easy to do yourself. I always get lots of compliments on the colour and both henna and cassua are very conditioning so my hair feel wonderful too.

*dye your whole head of hair every 6 months (posted accidentally too soon!)

The way around is to like the colour your hair fades to. Mine fades from copper to dark blonde, which I still prefer to my natural mousy colour.

You can't do a salon colour after henna though, can you? So what happens if it's not quite the shade you want?

Clarabellawilliamson · 20/11/2022 19:54

I do like the colour it has faded to @Gwenhwyfar, but because I was growing out bleach the end are almost blonde again whilst the roots are still very copper!

I knew it would fade quick but I was hoping for more than 3 weeks!

How often do you wash your hair?

Clarabellawilliamson · 20/11/2022 22:20

I wash it 2-3 times a week, trying to go longer between. I use L'Oréal colour protect range (the red one).

Ahh that will be a big contributor to the colour loss, agree try to stretch it out though I know this is hard for some hair types. The bed head dry shampoo is really light and had a nice smell

Superdrug do little bottles of colour depositing shampoo/wash in wash out colour that I found really good when I had copper hair. They’re about £1.99 and usually on an offer too! I used the warm copper gold one - www.superdrug.com/hair/hair-colourants/wash-in-wash-out/superdrug-colour-effects-copper-gold-734-75ml/p/794725?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclsrc=aw.ds&gbraid=0AAAAADp4mz-QXqpAUUXrd3HGO4rAukIVi&gbraid=0AAAAADp4mz-QXqpAUUXrd3HGO4rAukIVi&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInvGoyei9-wIVqf93Ch08mwUNEAQYASABEgKrI_D_BwE
