Charging for returns

I don't understand how companies can do this.
Last time I ordered from Dorothy Perkins the returns were free. I have no idea if they'll fit me cos obviously there's no shop to try on and I would much prefer there to be a shop I used to be in there all the time. I hate ordering clothes online but I have to now.
I go now and they're charging for it!
I'm so pissed off and sad. It's not like you can tell they fit you! I knew I hated getting charged online this has made me hate it even more

It’s because people (mostly women) were taking the piss: ordering things they were intending to wear once and then return, or 10 or more things from which they’d maybe keep one and return the rest. For some women, ordering things, especially clothes, over the internet and then returning them, is a hobby. As always, those who abuse a facility cause it to be removed from the rest of us.

I agree that I am always drawn to free delivery and/or returns, especially returns given I often have to order two sizes even in stores I know but really I know that the costs are built in somewhere either way. As long as it’s transparent and easy I’m learning to suck up a reasonable (£2-4) cost of returns but less keen on companies that hide under woolly “easy return” type text without stating the cost or have you use a particular courier with few local depots (looking at you Saint & Sophia and H&M respectively!)

Surely its in their T&C's about returning things and whether there is a charge? I always check before ordering-even from places I've bought from before. They do change often!

Oh I see ☹️ I never did this but thinking about it I do know one person who recently said she did this from somewhere so perhaps you're right ☹️☹️☹️

Yes it is
It was a thread to record express frustration and sadness about it all.
If I order I run the risk of losing money. If I had the option I would happily go in-store. And yet their clothes are the best fit on me often but that is far being a guarantee that each one I like will fit me and compliment me

I think all the try on hauls for Tiktok have also created this issue.

This. The sooner this trend dies a death, the better!

Squiz81 · 18/11/2022 16:18

I just tell myself it would cost me that to park if I physically returned them to the shop

WowStarsWow · 18/11/2022 16:39

If you paid for standard delivery and are returning everything, then you can claim that back (assuming they don’t refund it automatically; none of these companies seem to, even though it’s the law).
