Why are they all so hideous? Or expensive? Or both?

my favourite and most worn are Royal Canadian they are definitely expensive though. Super warm and comfortable. Not slip on though which is a pain. Great in ice and waterproof

Blundstone, super practical, waterproof, good on ice, slip on and off. Can get them with warm liners, a bit low for deep snow

Sorel caribou are warm, slip on, but heavy to walk around in and not the best on ice. Can’t beat them for deep, soft snow.

Boggs are good, waterproof, practical, ugly

they are all expensive unfortunately.

what conditions do you need them for?

Try decathlon for cheaper options

Hoppinggreen · 17/11/2022 10:16

Sorrel are nice and not a ridiculous price
Look at Landsend as well, I think they have a sale on at the moment

Decathlon are good. I go them for MIL when she was visiting and she was good in deep snow to -30. I don’t think they would last more than 1 full winter so it definitely depends on what you need them for

It’s for a ski trip (Alps) in January- I will be spending more time out of skis than usual so need something for spending time out in the snow.

My feet are also very wide - I like the Sorel ones but reviews say they come up narrow/small

I recommend Sorel Explorer Joan. Sturdy, warm and comfy. I sized up as have hobbit feet.

I love a snow boot but find most European ski resorts are very good at clearing paths, so they are not needed. And a pain to be taking on and off when you go inside.
A cheap decathlon pull on pair will be fine practically, or a decent pair of grippy shoes. But I love a moon boot!

Fellhof are good for warm boots with good soles, to wear all winter

We have Kuoma boots in our family. They are definitely not a thing of beauty but are incredibly warm and easy to get on and off. They are a Finnish brand and we bought ours in Finland but you can get them online.
