Olaplex for ageing hair

All my mum wants for Christmas is ‘moisture’ (in her hair). She is 70+ with short hair and cannot afford anything pricey so I would love to get her something that will actually do the job. Olaplex is marketed mainly for damaged hair from heat and dyes (mum doesn’t dye her hair at all but always blow dries), but I’m wondering if anyone knows if it’s helpful for ageing hair or just naturally very dry hair?

It's more for longer hair I think. Stops the split ends etc.

Maybe try conditioners like nounou, or hair masks?

I think olaplex is most effective on bleached hair tbh. I've got very dry hair that I've home dyed (dark colour) a lot, and olaplex is worse than useless for me, seems to actively make my hair worse. My friend (short bleached hair) swears by it though.

I've found the Aveda Damage Repair leave-in treatment very effective (the light brown/cream branding - haven't tried the green Botanical Repair ones). Charlotte Mensah hair oil is nice but a bit trickier to apply.

Charles Worthington Moisture Surge Hair Healer is really good. You can use it as a mask, or comb through before blow drying. It's cheap (esp compared to Olaplex!) and leaves hair supersilky and soft.

It was recommended to me by my Nana, and she has great hair for a 99 year old!

Olaplex is useless.

Oh, sorry, it's Moisture Seal not Surge... and it's leave-in conditioner. Just went and had a look.

I love neal and wolf. I have such dry hair, it is bleached, and I find it really nourishing

I am younger than your Mother, in my late 40s though I have aged hair as it's nearly half grey now.
I use baby shampoo as it's so gentle.

Ahh this is so interesting. I had a feeling that, as usual, what’s most pricey is not necessarily the best. Only problem is something less fancy doesn’t necessarily make for a very special Christmas gift 🤔

I think the Phillip Kingsley Elastizier

How about the Christophe Robin prickly pear mask? I find it leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturised and it’s a nice smell - feels like a bit of a luxury so might be a good gift.

Yep, I think it’s the prickly pear mask for the win then 😊 thanks all. I’m glad I asked.
