Reusable face cleansing pads. Is it just me?

I want to love them, but... I have a couple of different types. One of them is slightly fleecy, and seems to glug micellar water, and just move stuff round my face mostly, and the linen type ones are perhaps slightly better, but still thirsty Smile Anyone else found this? Is there a solution? TIA.

I just use the Primark cotton flannels, the thicker 'luxury' ones that cost approx. £2. My last stash lasted about 8 years before being demoted to cleaning rags. Those man made fibre fleecy cloths don't do it for me.

snowgirl1 · 13/11/2022 17:24

OP I've got fleecy reusable face cleaning pads and now just use them as back-ups for when I run out of cotton wool. They used so much micellar water - I didn't feel that it was that environmentally friendly :-( I really wanted to like them and stuck at them for a while. I'll watch with interest in case someone else has a solution.

JodiMahoney · 13/11/2022 17:26

I had one cleanser which recommended soaking the pad in water first so the product didn’t sink in and get wasted. Seemed to work with it being on the surface.

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2022 17:27

I have microfibre ones and they're fine, but I've not noticed them being thirsty. I use both sides then wash it.

SpookyPanda · 13/11/2022 17:45

Following for recommendations. I had some but they just wasted the makeup remover

theyalsoserve · 13/11/2022 17:46

I wet them then use micellar water and they're not thirsty. Much prefer the synthetic micrfibre ones -- softer

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/11/2022 18:10

Ohhhh. Wetting them seems like a really good idea! Thanks all. Interesting stuff!

I use the micro fibre ones with just water.

Waterproof mascara comes off easily! I will never go back to anything else.

AtomicBlondeRose · 13/11/2022 18:15

Yes, microfibre cloths with plain water are miraculous.

RampantIvy · 13/11/2022 18:18

I have a couple of these make up remover cookies and they are brilliant. I use them with a cream cleanser. I wet the cookie with warm water first. They wash well. I wouldn't use anything else now.

jay55 · 13/11/2022 19:05

I tried some bamboo ones but couldn't find anything to get them properly clean with, that didn't then make my skin react.

LouisaMayAlcott · 13/11/2022 19:07

I buy packs of (fairly thin and cheap) ikea flannels, they are with the baby stuff. They aren't as fluffy as normal flannels and they are great for face cleansing. I usually use them with hot cloth cleanser.

dreamcatchmee · 13/11/2022 19:08

If you haven't heard of them, look at 'face halo'. My gosh, it's been such a game changer taking off my make up!

Feministwoman · 13/11/2022 19:44

I make my own from old, worn out thinning cotton towels. I cut out pad shape and just wash them with sheets/pillowcases/towels (in a net bag) when I've collected a quantity.

When I can be bothered I hem the edges on my sewing machine. But often, I don't.

Work fab, very sightly abrasive but not rough

RampantIvy · 13/11/2022 19:51

The make up remover cookie that I use looks to be a cheaper version of the Face Halo @dreamcatchmee

Reusable face cleansing pads. Is it just me?

@RampantIvy oh interesting!! Thank you, I'm going to check this out now

Is it microfiber? I'm worried about the microplastics

Cynderella · 13/11/2022 20:05

I have tried some and find they are too thick - best I can find are muslin cloths, but I'd like the same in pad size.

And definitely not microfibre - want something safe to wash. Any recommendations?

SalviaOfficinalis · 13/11/2022 20:07

The microfibres ones (like face halo) are meant to be used with water.
I use a wet face halo to get rid of most of the make up, and then micellar water on a reusable bamboo pad to get the last bits off.

HungryForSnacks · 13/11/2022 20:08

I like the Cheeky Wipes microfiber washable baby wipes for removing make up.

dreamcatchmee · 13/11/2022 20:30

Yes, as another poster said - the face halo for instance uses just water to get off the make up, no additional product. I find it very good

VashtaNarada · 13/11/2022 20:30

I thought you were going to say they get stuck in the door of the washing machine. Mine do. Very annoying. I use them for wiping off cleansing cream/balm and they're good for it. The superdrug ones. Them not being easy to wash kind of kills it for me though, so ive gone back to flannels.

Same.
I've been using only those for the last 3 years and it has been fantastic for my skin.

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/11/2022 21:24

I use a flannel with a hot cloth cleanser, nothing else feels as clean!

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 13/11/2022 21:26

The game changer for me was cleansing with a balm or oil for around a minute of massaging.

After that I can wash my face so so easily with zero tugging and it doesn't matter what kind of bamboo type cloth I use.
