Larger ladies - where to shop online/in real life?

LookItsMeAgain · 12/11/2022 14:11

I find of late that I'm buying clothes (mainly tops but trousers as well) and having to return LOADS of them. Depending on where I shop and what I buy, I range from an 18 on top to a 22/24 (particularly if it's a blouse and I want it to close and not look strained at the buttons).

I'm looking for help from you please. I want to know where you shop either on line or in person to find clothes that fit.

I recently bought three tops from Yours and had to return them. The v-neck was incredibly low cut and wasn't comfortable to wear at all. I bought a top that I had seen on the Next website and it fit but the v-neck style was so open I would have needed a camisole under it as it was just too wide an opening it was ridiculous.

I'm really finding that I'm resorting to wearing jeans and tshirts a lot but would like a nice top or two to wear out and at Christmas.

Please can you advise?

I find New Look and also Very Curve are true to sizes.

ButterflyBiscuit · 12/11/2022 14:14

Seasalt

Deathraystare · 12/11/2022 15:17

Simply Be, Yours, Asos Curve. Next when their bloody website isn't playing sill buggers. Sometimes Peacocks. Mostly online because a lot of shops don't have larger sizes in the shops, you have to order online.

strangelyenough · 12/11/2022 15:19

I know it gets flack on here but Sheins curve range is good

SleepingisanArt · 12/11/2022 15:32

I loved Studio 8 but it's been discontinued in favour of selected styles from the Phase 8 range going up to larger sizes. I do like Wallis Curve too.

EdHelpPls · 12/11/2022 15:39

Ive had some lovely stuff from Evans (but also some stuff I had to return due to quality. Maybe 1/4 of the stuff)

waltzingparrot · 12/11/2022 15:41

Wallis

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 12/11/2022 15:44

Try Live Unlimted London, it's a bit more expensive but good quality and I find fits really nicely.

Lucienandjean · 12/11/2022 16:05

Seasalt, Marks and Spencer (for jeans and plain tops), White Stuff, Joules, Fat Face.

One thing I object to is that these shops all go up to plus sizes (until recently I was a 24/26, now a 22), but they don't stock the bigger sizes in store.

I recently went to a big M&S looking for jeans, wanting to try on a load of pairs to find the best fit. Nothing on the shop floor over size 20. The assistant said I'd be best to order a load online and return the ones I didn't want. Right, yes, of course I want to spend £300, then have to return all but one pair 🙄

Same in FatFace - nothing over an 18.

Having said all that, I usually end up with plenty I like, it's just not a great experience shopping in person.

LookItsMeAgain · 12/11/2022 16:09

@Lucienandjean - I agree. It's very disheartening.

Agree with @ButterflyBiscuit that Seasalt is a good call. A lot of styles go up to size 24 though they tend to be generously sized. They print actual garment measurements which are very helpful and customer feedback is also useful.
Fatface and White Stuff are usually reliable. Finally M&S is worth a look. Again, customer feedback is very useful regarding fit and styling.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 12/11/2022 16:18

I've always shopped at Yours. The quality has been crappy lately though. Seasalt and New look (both online not tried in person) have been true to size and nice stuff.

riotlady · 12/11/2022 16:25

I’ve had some lovely stuff from ASOS curve

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 12/11/2022 16:31

I've had lots from seasalt (through m&s) and they go up to 26/28 in some items.

Wallis is lovely, got some gorgeous summer dresses from there. Unfortunately all my other stuff is from a boutique shop that I visit 3-4 times a year to stock up (no more as it's crazy expensive and 200 miles away).

Badger1970 · 12/11/2022 16:33

There's a great Aussie company called Taking Shape whose stuff is really good quality - they're selling direct in the UK again now and I'd say the bulk of my wardrobe is from there. They do sales quite regularly and it's generously sized.

I find Simply Be own brand quality shocking, but I do get Joe Brown stuff from there. I like their tunics.

Other brands: Adini good for tunics/tops, Mint Velvet for tops, Seasalt, and White Stuff is generously sized.

Deathraystare · 13/11/2022 10:44

@Badger1970

Wow! Thanks Badger! I have ordered the fluffy red cardi from Taking shape, plus a bright pink active wear top and active wear black trousers.

Will probably buy more next year ready for my cruise but hoping (against hope probably) to lose a bit of weight!!

Deathraystare · 13/11/2022 10:56

@dontknowwasmadetoknow

Nice stuff there!

katscamel · 13/11/2022 14:20

My most recent purchases have been from.. Debenhams (though the website can be rubbish at times), M&S, Bon Marche, Matalan and Evans. Roman do some nice bits though read fabric description carefully as some is just nasty.
Wallis and Principles and Next also have some lovely things in sometimes.

Cincinnatus · 13/11/2022 16:50

Never have a problem with Live Unlimited from John Lewis.
