Chemo hair

I had chemo last year and since my hair has grown back it has changed texture. It’s now sort of fluffy & frizzy. It used to be very fine but it was smoother & softer. Can anyone relate? And does anyone have any recommendations for products that help? I’m pretty low maintenance so usually just use a shampoo bar but am now using my daughter’s detangling spray to tame it!

Been there. For me it was a phase and as the hair grew and I had it cut, it reverted to its previous gentle waves. There is a lot of it though.
I switched from the hairdresser brands to sulphate free brands and have found OGX coconut curls to work well. They have heat protection and air dry creams , and I can get them all at Boots or Sainsburys.
Its taken a couple of years, but my hair has never felt better.

Thank you, that’s really reassuring to hear! I think the brands I use at the mo are already sulphate free but I’ll check that. Good tip about the OGX coconut curls. I wonder if I need to use something more nourishing as previously I worried about weighing my hair down but now it’s coarser.

You could try a serum or overnight masque . I went through a long period of just letting my hair air dry, but at that point it was still at the curly stage and we were in various degrees of lock down and working from home. But I think it helped my hair.

it’s so good when it comes back though, isn’t it ? Losing it was probably my worst day (mine came out very quickly and all at once ). Stay well

Yes I tend to let mine air dry anyway as I’m a bit lazy! An overnight mask is a great idea- i’ll have a look. It’s so hard losing your hair isn’t it? I wasn’t too worried initially as I’ve never been too attached to my hair but seeing it coming out in handfuls was horrible. Bad times! Hope you keep well too. Thanks for responding 😊

I found when mine came back it was very fluffy and fine like baby hair. I had to have it cut a few times as I couldn't deal with the fluff. It's grown back well now. Ironically I had curly hair and it has come back quite straight.

I agree that losing my hair was more upsetting than losing my breast to cancer.

Mine did this but it didn't take long for it to go back to normal, I'm ten years on now and have the same hair I had when younger

I had similar after chemo and it's grown back pretty much as it used to be. Possibly curlier. I went to Toni and guy who had stylists trained to work with post cancer patients. But I've just googled and it doesn't seem to be in place anymore! I used baby shampoo for a few months and then had a cut of my straggly hair. After that I had regular trims and used the shampoo recommended by the salon ( which wasn't pushed on me and not expensive)

Thanks for the comments everyone. Nice to know that it seems to go back to normal eventually. That’s interesting about Toni & Guy- I know Trevor Sorbie had a similar initiative.
