Does a flattering swimming cap exist?

They’re compulsory at our local pool. I have long hair and a large enough head and I don’t want to look stupid. The turban style ones can look nice but I think I’d just be drawing more attention to myself.

Thought my colouring and head size might help!

If they are compulsory then why worry. Everyone has to wear them so you all look the same.

I wear a neoprene one from decathlon. It's easy to get on. I hate the rubber ones hurt to much.

True. I know no one is really going to be looking at me, I’m just very self conscious and would like to feel comfortable in myself.

I think you just need to slap on your goggles and remember literally no one is looking at you.

lurchermummy · 09/11/2022 21:03

But if everyone is wearing one you won't stand out?

BlackLodge · 09/11/2022 21:10

You’re all right, I’m weird.

My mum had a stunning rubber flowery masterpiece in the 70s

DreadLab or soulcaps do swimming hats in different sizes for longer/bigger hair and heads. I think designed for Afro hair originally. I have a soul cap which is great for my long unruly hair, which I put in a top knot and add conditioner before swimming. I think I got a size M.
It doesn’t feel like a horrible tight speedo number. They come in different colours and last for ages & are about £15.

Thanks @Lastarse, that’s very helpful!

I don't think you can look stylish in any swimming cap. If you go down the flowery/ turban route, the contrast with the ordinary municipal baths setting might look faintly ridiculous.
Just get a cap like everyone else- bog standard speedo or similar (or the soul cap if you need it). The main thing to think about in S&B terms would be the colour- so choose a colour that looks good with your skin tone and your swimsuit.
Most pools would ask you not to put product in your hair before you swim. That is why they ask you to shower before swimming. No one wants to swim in a soup of everyone else's conditioner combined with extra pool chemicals to keep the water suitable for swimming.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/11/2022 07:39

Speedo also do a long hair swimming cap. Funkita do lots of different designs, but essentially it's a swimming hat and largely practical rather than stylish. Waterproof make up if you're that concerned?

KatyS36 · 10/11/2022 08:30

A flattering colour, for you, makes loads of difference. Personally I think sporty goggles in an interesting colour can draw attention to your eyes rather than the cap.

BlackLodge · 10/11/2022 09:22

I’m actually quite low maintenance, not that you’d know it. Someone once quipped that my head looked like a bowling ball in a black beanie, so I have an aversion to hats and feel very paranoid! I think I’ll just go for a long hair swimming cap in a colour that isn’t black maybe!

Try Nancy Farmer on etsy. She does silicon long hair ones with lovely designs (fit my giant head and long hair comfortably). www.etsy.com/ca/shop/WaterDrawnArt

I have a fabric one from Decathlon and it doesn't squish my head like the normal ones do, doesn't pull your hair, and is a slightly better shape.

I also have my eye on this gold spotty one in silicone for swimming in cold water:

As a pp said, the fabric ones from Decathlon are much comfier and don’t pull your hair and skin like the rubber ones. They don’t keep your hair dry though.
