Jowls - filler has been suggested - any experiences of filler for sagging face?? Can't ignore it any longer!

My jowls have been sagging for a while now, and it's getting more notice able. Spoke to a therapist a couple of years ago who suggested threading and or filler and I'm now considering going somewhere to look at prices, etc.

I'd love to hear from people who've had either of these treatments and how it panned out for you. I'm INCREDIBLY nervous and don't really want anything invasive but, really, it's not looking great.

Or if anyone wants to warn me off because their face was ruined by filler - go ahead!

Following because I am in the exact same position.

Yes, I have had filler in my jowls a few times, just a little each side. Its definitely filled my lower face out again and stopped the droop. It last for about 6 months or so.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 09/11/2022 15:49

@millypeggyandpandora - I was told it would last for a few years...Perhaps it depends on the type of filler?

I'm worried that if I have quite a round face then filler will just make me look bloated.

millypeggyandpandora · 09/11/2022 15:53

No, definitely hasn't lasted for years with me. Only a bit is put ion each side though.
I have had filler in my cheeks too, but I won't do that again as it doesn't look that natural. I would recommend filler in your jowls though because it looks natural and stops creases developing in that area.

millypeggyandpandora · 09/11/2022 15:55

It doesn't make you look bloated because your replacing the collagen, not going on top of it.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 09/11/2022 16:04

It was suggested (though I was nervous and am a bit deaf so probably didn't hear everything said!) that the filler would be placed slightly higher up the face, and somehow, that would, I don't know, somehow do something to the jowls, in an improving way. God, I'm so nervous about going down this route and ending up looking like a bloated ferret or that Jocelyn Widenstein.

I had filler straight into the sagging area OP. Perhaps you need to go back to the therapist OP and have another chat!
Please remember that fillers are a very common procedure and a lot more refined than when that looney Widenstein had it done!

Kennykenkencat · 09/11/2022 16:24

I thought as well that filler went into the cheek and area in order to lift the skin up

couldn’t imagine filling out my jowls with filler. I would end up with a very strange and fat jaw line

minidancer · 09/11/2022 16:35

Temple and cheek filler is usually used to lift jowls so it pulls them up slightly

ShahRukhKhan · 09/11/2022 17:17

Choose a reputable aesthetician and they will be able to dissolve the filler if you don't like it. You have to give it at least 2 weeks to settle down and see the proper results. You can have some in your cheeks to lift, and/or in jawline to firm that up-- a good practitioner will be able to advise and you can take it in small steps when it seems scary, just a tiny bit at a time. No need to fear it, it is all temporary and reversible if you don't like it.

Googlecanthelpme · 09/11/2022 18:37

There are quite a few options for the chin, neck, lower face OP. Absolutely find a reputable aesthetic consultant and go and see them. No hate to beauticians or salons which offer this but I wouldn’t let anyone without medical training and licenses work on me. Lots of reasons but one of the key ones being - if it does go wrong, they have access to immediate treatment a salon simply wouldn’t have.
But to ease your concerns - you don’t end up with fish lips or puffy faces over night. Those are examples of people repeatedly adding filler - unnecessary I guess. A decent consultant Is going to tell you what they feel you need and will also tell you what is unnecessary and unnatural.

There are also non injectable options such as laser treatments? It’s actually really quite amazing what can be achieved with a course of decent radio frequency neck / face tightening.

Before you make any decisions find a recommended consultant and go and see them, see what is achievable and also research chin and neck tightening online - a friend had both filler in the jaw line and some injections in my chin which froze the fat (I don’t know, sounds mad to me) but the combination of it has been super effective.

I have very bad marionette lines from my nose to my mouth which were causing jowls .I have filler injected directly into them and it helps to lift the whole area. It lasts about a year each time and leaves me with much less pronounced lines/jowls -no lines at all would make me look like a beach ball!

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 10/11/2022 13:16

Thanks for all your responses - @Puppylucky , I have those lines too and they're also a concern. They get worse when I lose weight, so it's a trade off! @Googlecanthelpme - thanks for that, it's reassuring. Guess that's one of my concerns, that I'll end up permanently freaky looking. I'll definitely do my research before embarking upon treatment. The therapist I saw does her own treatment and she looks genuinely wonderful. And natural, which is reassuring.

My Mum was a big fan of facial exercises. She started getting a bit jowly and came across these and they were surprisingly effective. Didn't go 100% but there was a visible improvement. Just don't do them in front of anyone as you do look a bit weird!

fdkc · 10/11/2022 13:26

If you don't mind me asking what age are you? I have had underage filler and my jowl lines are next.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 10/11/2022 13:32

@fdkc - I'm 53 and two months old 😎The jowls could be worse I guess but they seem to be getting more noticeable more quickly now. Did the filler work well for you?

OP posts:
PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 10/11/2022 13:34

@Beamur - I actually have a book of facial exercises I really should look at. I started doing them years ago then tailed off. I read that as well as firming up the muscles of the face it can also stretch the skin, so that put me off! Going to start doing some jowl exercises today...

I used to have CACI treatment till my therapist moved and haven't found another one yet.

I loved the filler but I think I'll go for a lower bleph in the next few years. My eye bags are hereditary so I need them fixed permanently. My jowl are not too bad but ib lost over 3 stone and really notice them now, I am only 39.

I have yet to try botox, that will be next x

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 10/11/2022 15:14

@fdkc - I have eye bags too, though more shadows than bags. Been the bane of my life and nothing has ever worked. Have photos of me as a 10 month old with eye bags!

I have had my naselobial folds filled and it’s great. Totally natural and long lasting. No one noticed and I’ve not told anyone outside of my family but I don’t now instantly home on in them when I look in the mirror. I had a bit of bruising but pain free mainly. You feel the pressure and the needle but it’s ok if they use numbing cream.

BlueSky2023 · 23/10/2023 15:26

i have heard you can get a Botox procedure in your neck called a nefertiti neck lift, they put Botox in the neck band muscles and under your chin along the jawline that weakens the neck muscles ( the ones that look like neck bands) so that they aren’t tight and stop pulling the face down, anyone have any experience of this?

it kind of makes sense when you think about it
