Took antibiotics for acne for 3 months, acne is now returning - help!

I took a low dose of antibiotics for 3 months for my acne after trying Differin and a topical antibiotic. I finished my 3 month course of antibiotics around a month or so ago.

Before I started on the antibiotics, I have acne just in my chin and jaw. Painful, red under the skin spots that felt swollen and bruised and never came to a head.

Currently, I have 7 spots on my chin/jaw area, all under the skin and sore (albeit smaller in size that my pre-antibiotics spots were). I've also got some bumps on my forehead and a few small spots on my forehead (I've never had issue with acne on my forehead before). I'm still using Differin every night

Do I go back to the GP now, or wait until it gets worse? Before I went to the GP after being sick of my whole chin area feeling bruised every day, and because I could feel the spots throb/pulse under my skin. At the moment, I look spotty but they're not as bad/painful

Get another course as soon as you can OP.

The topical antibiotic (was it clindamycin?) can become resistant so best to wash with benzoyl peroxide first.

Perhaps ask to swap from differin to something else?

Lynecycline? My ds had what you described, painful red cluster type spots on chin, he took antibiotics for a good while about a 6/7 months, much better now.

Zinc tablets

Get back to the GP ASAP.

If it's Lymecycline then it should be continued until 6 months...

Mine was linked to dairy. Might be worth considering a link with your diet?

Roaccutane was the only thing that worked for my acne and cleared it for good

I was recently referred to dermatology having been on lymecycline for a year. It had started becoming less effective after about 8 months. The derm doctor said that GPs regularly misunderstand the use of antibiotics for acne which will only work while the person remains on them, rather than being a permanent cure. Also the derm said that you shouldn't stay on them for much longer than 6 months but GPs get that wrong too. I'm now on spironolactone which I will stay on forever if necessary!!!

Just checked and the antibiotic was lymecycline, and I was prescribed it for 3 months
